Put range on stats

Feb 17, 2006 exDragon link
In the game and in the Wikipedia, there are no stats to how far a weapon can fire.

duration * velocity = range

:p

Besides, range doesn't matter that much. Most things won't hit your opponent in a fight past 200m. If for some reason, your target is still or a convoy, I've found that the commonly used weapons have a range of about 400-500m. Exception is rail guns, which all have a range of ~1000m.

Also, it's important to note that flares/missles go faster depending on your speed. So if you're moving 220 m/s and you fire a sunflare, it'll move 305 m/s, so a flare has a VERY high possible range. Btw, I've managed to get flare to move backwards =D

D*(V+CS)

Duration
Velocity
Current Speed

Yes, I know you included that Phaserlight, just making it clearer for others.

I just looked a wikepedia again. There is no duration stats for energy weapons. Does this mean they go on forever? Also some ammo weapons have an infinite life time. Does this mean they go on forever?

yea, flares aren't the only weapons that derive their total velocity from your speed... they all do, with the exception of missiles.

IIRC most energy shots have a lifetime of 3 seconds.
the only exception I can think of is the flechette.

Flares don't have an infinite life time.....
Most energy weapons max out at 600m.
If your moving forward then that number goes up accordingly.
About 65m/s * 3 seconds of life time.
795m total.

You get the picture.

and in a dogfight the maximum effective range of a blaster weapon is more or less as far as it can travel in one second.

Actually its more like the speed of the weapon times twice the reaction speed. Anything more than that, and you have plenty of time to move.

That's roughly half a second. So for most blasters 100 m is the minimum effective range

Someone needs to do this.

Wikipedia is a major website that combines the concept of a wiki with an encyclopedia. It allows users to add and edit content as a collective knowledge base, like a wiki, while covering a broad range of knowldge like an encyclopedia, while normally a wiki is specific to a subject. Its website can be found at www.wikipedia.org.

wiki != wikipedia

But on the subject:

How do we find the duration on weapons? Is it the same on all of them? I have never cared to notice.
Feb 17, 2006 KixKizzle link
Within about 10 minutes of experimenting you could have all of the weapon durations documented.
So just figure it out.

energy weapons persist for ~3 seconds (give or take a few miliseconds for lag)

rockets and missiles have duration stats right there when you buy them... its called "fuel"
