1 Large port on a ship is more than enough firepower. It allows the mounting of agt. If we have a ship with the manuverability of a vulture, able to mount agt, and have stealth abilities, I think it might be overpowered. Unless something like Lecter's idea comes into play with the permanently mounted weapons.
Ghost,
actualy id prefer to see the mass/thrust ratio be such that the difference between an AGT and a megaposi would drasticly reduce it's manuverability.
but i do have to agree that the best solutiojn might be to try Dr Lector's idea and give it 2 permenant mega-posies.

Mega-posi's are good. I like the idea of rails, especially the though of a mega-rail, even better. A true sniper-ship.
M-m-m-m-MEGA rails!?

I allways dreamed about one of those new raptors with two fixed megaposis. Has nothing to do with the stealth ship, but crosses the fixed guns ideas.
Q, I love ya, man, but could you please have your mom or your neighbor or someone check spelling for you?
I'm trying to take your point seriously but, well, the spelling ends up being too funny and i didn't get past "proxcimity"...
To leber, Not everyone in this game is borned in England and US.
Jackass :P

But everyone has access to a spellchecking program. It's a no-brainer.

actualy i was born and raised in the US, my lousy spelling is the result of a combination of factors, but the bottom line is this is a hobby and therefor i don't spend too much time obsessing over every word i type.
and the spell checker is often cluless on how to correct my errors.

Lec: I can agree that a megaposi/Lport rail would be appropriate for this ship, but other L-port weapons are not... I would suggest two S-ports, rather than one L, since neuts/ions/phasers all use the s-port. We don't really *want* an stealth ship to be capable of "overwhelming force", since it's meant to be something novel, not something superior.... or, that's what I gathered.
I do like the idea of having it be a vult varient though... and ghost's idea of having the 'stealth' ability something that needs to be activated at the expense of energy.
The benefit fo a stealth ship should be to help you sneak up on another vessel - not to help you kill it. once the element of suprise is given away, combat should still be about who is the better pilot, not who has the stealth ship. That said, they should be made to give up their stealth ability in order to sustain a killing stream of fire (stealth requires battery power), or they must be in some other way unable to maintain a targeting advantage in combat (once they hit you, you can target they show up as hostile, and be targetable as such)
Again, the stealth ship should give you an advantage in the element of suprise, NOT in combat
PS. /me votes for the Vulture

while i agree with that point, i disagree with your assesment as a whole.
the stealth ability should not require energy becuase that prevents the stealth ship from launching an effective attack the moment it becomes "detectable"
as such i believe the stealth ship should always have it's stealth abilitys but that those abilities should be limited to abilities that make it harder to detect at long range without signifigantly imparing it's trackability once it's detected.
notice that the ship i perposed can be targeted, can be seen on radar (but is read as an asteroid), and can be seen in the sector list (but always reads as being out of radar range). also it is not invisable, just painted black and a user defined color (instead of light grey and a user defined color).
as far as giving the stealth ship overwhelming power, it does need a lot of firepower. it has to kill it's targets before they can run away, or turn and fight. i'm not keen on making it a spam platform, or even an AGT platform, but i think that is best prevented by giving the ship a preventitivly low mass, and turbo speed.

"the stealth ability should not require energy becuase that prevents the stealth ship from launching an effective attack the moment it becomes "detectable""
Energy required = 50/sec
You would need to use an FC battery, and would be able to sustain stealth indefinately, so long as weapons are not firing, and unless you were using your boosters while in stealth mode, you would still have a full battery with which to attack when you came out of it.
You would have a perfectly effective attack.
unless you didn't disable steath as soon as you started firing, in which case, you'd drain battery power FAR too fast to kill anything.
so yea, battery drain would work out perfectly.

for onr thing the ship i designed is intended to be used with a heavy battery (hence it's 45 turbo drain) and for another you will probably need more than one 250 energy to destroy a target, as well as a short turbo sprint would probably be required to make a sucessfull attack in most situations.
i'm all for forms of stealth that drain energy (cloaking devices and the like) but the role of this perticular ship is (i believe) best fufilled with persistant stealth abilities and sutably balanced other stats.

LQ:
I destroy targets with a single burst from FC, all the time, so don't say it's not enough energy to kill a target - if you have the element of suprise, it's AMPLE energy. Besides which, it's adding 50 energy to its capacity every second it's firing.
No ship should have 45 turbo drain. Hell, some people will argue that no ship should have infiniturbo at all, much less on a heavy battery. To give it infinate stealth and a turbo drain of 45 would be making it VASTLY overpowered, which is precisely what we want to avoid.
If you can't kill something in a stealth ship without a heavy batery and infiniturbo, you don't deserve the kill.

what targets do you destroy? i sispect light fighters, which aren't the intended targets of a stealth ship. anyway, a ship that has a 45 drain and a top turbo speed of 100m/s is not overpowered i don't care what anyone says about that. there is no other ship in the game that can't outrun it, and there are some that can outrun it indefinately. the only way it can get close to an enemy is by use of it's stealth abilities or through neglegence on the part of the target.
anyway the bigger issue is the feal of the ship. I'm thinking along the lines of a modern stealth plane. it's not using ECM or an other sort of cloaking device, rather it's just hard to see on sencores.
basicly my opibion is this:
the amount of stealth the ship i designed has is not sufficent to warent an energy drain. for one thing the ship's engins can be balanced such that it can't manuver worth a darn. and more inportantly the ship is detectable by all means used to detect ships curently (it's just not as easy).
if you want stealth that drains energy it should be signifigantly more efficent.

I have two things to say to this thread :)
1) yeah, stealth (on radar) ships would be awesome. Making them show up just like roids would be perfect :D
2) Dyslexics have more fnu. :D
I can say this only because I am one :P

Make it like this
45 Turbo Drain + 5 Stealth Drain (the drain on the battery per second that stealth is on)
That way, A) It's still going to take 90 seconds to fully drain on a Heavy Battery ( a total of 9,000 meters traveled)
B) Will force you to choose whether you want your stealth on or off when you attack, but know that the battery draains pretty damn fast if you do turbo, stealth AND shoot

Soulless1,
lol
moldyman,
that's not a bad compromise, but i just don't see a need for the stealth to be dectavatable at all. i mean the ship is visable to the naked eye, targetable, shows up on radar and in the sector list (with limitations on those last 2). if it fails to kill it's target immediately, or if it has multiple targets it will be very easy to finde after the first shot is fired (lordly pilots not withstanding).

Ah, but you see what i said. I said it would just be hard for it to be able to do all three. A novice with this ship would try to do all three, and get summarily executed while they wait for their battery to recharge. A veteran (with the ship or one with a massive amount of logic and tactical sense) would not however.
::wanders off to cut a perfectly hog-shaped hole in a roid, with two holes to fire through::
hehehe...
But seriously, I think a stealth ship is a great idea.
