ghost stations

Jan 25, 2006 mellowvision link
I was thinking about how even in our upper atmosphere, we have tons of used up, broken and damaged equipment in orbit. I'd like to see stations that have been attacked and partially destroyed, that remain as ghosts of their past.

there would be no station guards.

some of these stations might be partially operational, maybe only the automated systems work, the repair nanites in dock, the ammo... but you can't sell anything or buy anything because there is no one there to man the store.

perhaps you can leave cargo in station, but anyone could take it... making it an interesting way to exchange goods.

perhaps certain guilds would claim ghost stations as their own, and through the use of nanites and repair beams, could rebuild the station's security over time.

Sorry to sink your boat... but this has been talked about a ton in the past - -there's a lot of other threads about it. But I certainly support the idea.

Yeah but let's have REAL ghost stations! Vaporous translucent remnants of past stations with ghostly creatures. Think Final Fantasy!

Now, add Xirith Dragons & Giant Fire-breathing Space Hamsters too! Makes Hive queens run squealing for cover.

AND ship-eating mutant asteroids! Think of them as a cluster of VERY angry nanites.

GREMLINS!!!!!!!!

(sorry... I'm still on cough medication)

Who knows when the first ghost station thread came into being? This one isn't the first, and it's not the last.

I like this idea. Though there should be something to stop other guilds from jumping straight into the sector amayeb the guild can buy attack drones which stay in one place or maybe patrol and attack enemy ships.
