Defense Turrets
We used to have station defense turrets. They had boxy little models and sat outside stations, immobile and heavily armoured. Would it not be more useful to put a few of those around stations and give them a 600m range than to have Defbots of Doom? Perhaps Luis could even redo the model a bit (Hint: Homeworld 2 Ion Turrets)?
Why do I say this? I was just rereading the preview from release 3.3 and we're finally getting the announced features (fixed UI, user-creatable missions, NPC traders with escorts, fixed economy). Now maybe we can get some of the 3.1 features...

Lol, I agree Roguelazer, the deathbots of doom are actually outrunable, however provided they had four to five defense turrets around the station, I doubt you could get away.
I like it. Give them uber gatlings or, even better, those instant hit lasers that HAC class ships have. ;-)
I honestly like the fact that it's easy to get away from the bots. I think they're there to force you to leave, or make it difficult to stay. It's fun to try to attack your opponents (or conc mine them =D) while chased by strike forces and aernas. Anyone who's in the chaos at M-14 post-Deneb Run knows this.
The old turrets used railguns, not lasers of any sort that I can remember.

Well, hrm. OK as long as these are not "mann-able" turrets in tha stations.
If they were.... Then you'd get a bunch of itani-admired Serco folks sitting in Divinia M-14 and splashing every CtC voy that shows up. And vice versa at Catequil. And you'd get teams of folks occupying turrets at popular stations (E.G. Sedina L-2, D-14, Latos N-2, Odia M-14) and preventing people from docking.
So I'm all for this idea as long as the turrets are automatic guns or something, activated only when someone violates the NFZ... I recommend a combination of the old-style capship SuperAGT, some Leviathan-style gauss, and some long-range advanced railguns.
ONE MORE CAVEAT: These weapons must be out of range of all the wormholes. Otherwise racing thru serco space for me will be a death sentence. Damn Serco put stations at every frikkin wormhole, it seems.

I'm all for turrets. And those turrets were unmannable (and should stay that way).
And, LeberMac: What do you expect us to do? We wouldn't like more nukes dropped on our planets. Heavy defenses slightly dissuade from trying to do so again.
