jex- it wouldnt require a reset. it just makes licenses mean a lot less than they do currently, and makes them harder to obtain.

I'm very much in favor of killing the experince points system, completely. It only restricts the flow of this game, by making it a grind simply to become competative. New players, and alt characters, should have to jump through hoops, but these hoops should allow players to move at thier own pace with a nominal check on thier preparedness. VO is more about the fast paced comabt than obligatory grinding.

With the new mission system, maybe it would be possible to set special, sequential missions that would allow players to achieve these liscenes in the stead of raw experince points. Use their current license level as the availablity flag. Thus, the mission for "Combat Flight 3" would only become available at CF2, and would then be replaced by CF4 mission on completion.

And since these are slightly related, I will post them here. With certain badges such as Mentor 3, these should supercede the previous badges. If I am a Mentor 3, then I have already achieved Mentor 1 and 2. I should only have one icon, reflecting my higest mark of achivement here.

And finally, (although with the abolition of experince, this would be less critical) we still really need a rank 1 L-port energy weapon.

It does need a chara reset, the only other option being the guys at Guild converting all existing characters, with the XP-based Licenses and stats, to their equivalent accomplishment-based Licenses and stats. Otherwise, how would the system know which missions have been taken or not by my Trade 11 chara?

This change affects how charas were grown at a fundamental level; they need to be either changed over or scrapped.

jex, you obviously werent here when licenses were obtained by going to the station and taking a "mission" which required you to pay a fee before the license was granted.

So yeah, the framework for it is definitely in place. Licenses are already treated as or linked to accomplishments.

Jex you make it too complicated. I'm sure there is an easy way to convert over the current character data into any new setup they come up with. IF ANY.

Hmmm, I was here at the time when, upon earning the required XP, you were told to go to the station, paid some cash, and got the License; I don't recall if you had to take a mission or not, but since I got into the game five days after it went Gold, I'd wager that is it. Again, that just lists "X amounts of XP earned, License Y can be acquired", not "X and Y and Z missions finished, License Q can be acquired" nor "X and Y and Z missions finished, Ship/widget W available for purchase".

I told you...they have it setup like a christmas tree with flags...

like, 500 sets the A rail flag, and the 500pk medal flag

combat 9 sets the *weapons for combat nine* flag

see?

damn, 4:11 AM...I need to go to bed.
