*Bump* For discussion of the other wormhole thread.
This idea.... /me drewls...
But.... having a sector without light, would be quite.. hmm.. troublesome. Atleast give SOME light (but not much), maybe even somewhat flashing light.. like it goes on for 5 seconds suddenly, and then quickly fades away. And then you have a bit of light again, but not as much, and that fades in, fades out etc.. then you suddenly have no light at all for 20 sec. Then the light flashes in very brightly again (so bright, you don't see anything but light), then it becomes dark again... also for an added creepyness-effect: when it's dark again, the screen suddenly flashes and there is a creapy alien in front of your ship saying: 'boo' (or something like that), it stays there for 1 sec, when it then moves away (or slides away, leaving a bunch of slime behind.

There should be no radar either. ^_^
*cackles evilly*
Can the furies live their? I'd love to see a bigger furie ship.

Radar interferance breaks up the scanners...or they take "flight damage" and aren't operable until you next land at a good station.
I like the idea of it sending players to s0 as it would be beneficial to chasing the Devs around as they tend to jump there then DevWarp to the battle again, then if they jumped, one way or another you end up in system with them.

Ooh, other idea: if you open a gate, and somebody jumpes with you; the one who opened the gate also should have a chance to end up in the void. Nice conversations in void: you **** why did you have to jump with me?!
Umm Sheean you'd REALLY like to cause people to have epileptic seizures ehh???? *sigh* Flashing lights...
s0 is just in general a bad sector to be sent to when you fall into the "void".
Uh yeah, well atleast make the light suddenly flash like when there's thunder... that really increases the eery fealing to it and all.
I really like this idea, it would look cool and it would be really fun (for some im sure it wouldnt be). I also agree that the "void factor" shouldnt be based on your connection speed, but rather on Suicidal Lemming's idea. The system should look something like this:
-it would look like a lot like s17 but with even less visibility, like your in a dense fog or something (a nebula or something)
-the space creatures could fade in/out of the 'fog' for added creepyness
-radar wouldnt work due to interference, and the radar screen would only show static
-the station(s) would be all twisted and broken, and some of the lights would blink on and off like they're messed up and others would just be dead
-also, the 'void sector' would be foggier than s17 yet also darker
I think if this can be implemented into the game it would add a new elemetn to the game (as has been stated, sorry to restate:) )

...and in the fog there could be ghost ships just floting past :P (Are you trying to scare the younger players?)
anyway... I really really like the idea of making wormholes more dangerous! that would make the game more fun to play :)

Do you know what volumetric fog would do to my framerate? It would kill it, creamate it, and pee on its ashes. As much as I would love to see it, it would look like a slideshow to me.
Oh oh and a frigvate ripped into several peices! (that you can fly into) with little wine glasses and chairs floating around.
Also make some dead people ocasionaly just bump into your ship. That would scare the hell out of you (would probably also increase the minium age to play vendetta.. hmmm.)
3+ to 18+?
"making Wormholes more dangerous" not "scaring the life out of people". Back on topic! :)

Lets pick out some of the nicer idea's that have been added up here, see how many people like it.
Seems it should have these properties.
1. Should be dark, foggy, making it kind of, creepy and isolated.
2. Some sort of lightning storm, perhaps with ship vibrations, to add danger.
3. Dead Stations, Ships, floatinging around, torn to pieces, in various states of turmoil and abandonment.
4. No radar in this sector. You only way out is your luck.
That seems to be the nicest of the bunch? Seems to make for a good creepy sector too.. perhaps we should add in the occasional groan of tortured metal, like the ship is coming apart (think of a submarine being crushes).. or random equipment failures (imagine flying around at top speed when suddenly the left thruster comes on full blast for no apparant reason.. :D)..

There already are quality/polygon-count sliders... make a minimum age slider ;) As for % chance... I say, make it exponential such that 99% is negligable, but 20% power is virtually impossible to successfully jump. Failing wormholes would make some pretty graphics ;) Random equipment failures? Try pressing up, spin left, and caps lock... then let go of all three... you keep going and going and getting dizzy...
All very good ideas, I personally like the suck in range to go up to say 700m.
That way it is impossible to sit at a wormhole exit and wait for incomming ships, to blast out of existence.
In this sence, I would like the distence to the openning wormhole to be a factor in the 'send to void' equation. Say, are you right on the opening ships tail, you have a higher chance to get through ok, but if you turbo'ed up to him, you'd be screwed because of low bat. On the other hand, just waiting in the distance is no good either...
Does it show that I have been blasted many a times by waiting ships in wormhole exists?? :-)

If it was to be made a no-radar zone with fog (which would choke many computers if it was done with particles), then I'd say we should get rid of the creatures, since it would be absolutley impossible to survive there AND deal with the no radar, no fog AND deal with a moving wormhole (which is a good idea in theory, but the wormhole would still have to appear on the HUD, which means that radar would still technically work for wormholes).
Other than that, I like this idea, and I'd like to start pirating lost traders immediatley...
