It would be interesting if you could plant mines on roids, that would explode within a fairly large range of proximity (200m) and have a large blast radius, but not be overwhelmingly damaging. perhaps they shoot xith rounds or fleschette in a wide spray pattern... they could have a long life span, lasting up to 20 minutes or an hour undetonated, and be used as a way to defend territory, or pirate ion storms. Their small size and lack of motion should keep them well hidden from radar until they are in close range, maybe 500m, but they might have a flashing beacon or something that is visible. Porcumines would be expensive and heavy, so a ship could probably only carry 2 or 3 at a time. Planting a mine would be like mining, you'd have to drill a hole and insert the mine, so perhaps it takes a certain amount of time.
Interesting, especially if considered with the capital ships in mind. I'm guessing you're thinking of blockades, to deny others (factions, guilds, whoever) access to resources or even an entire system.

This game needs some AoE damage besides Lmines. Something with big bad blast radius, even have DoTs

basicly a ship, witch deploys out to be a turret, and it takes 10 seconds to do it. and when you are done you can pack your turret and fly away. the type of weaponry could vary based on the purpose and tactic of battles ahead..

stickymines would be cool. Stick them to an enemy fighter and detonate them when they're least expecting it... like when they're near a friendly or something :P
this would be really fun to play with. Could have a few diff types like mentioned. Proximity detonaters, Mini-turrets with limited ammo, HAC busters (mini-nukes), etc. An easy way to handle distrobution is to lock onto target roid and simply fire your heavy weapon, which would launch a small probe that would then attach to the targeted roid. Could just be a magic warp or there could be a small animation sequence. They should however be targetable by PC's and have a small amount of armor, like HAC turrets, but much less armor. In the case of a nuke, could be that it detonates on attack as well, so better to leave them be and let them "time-out". Maybe I'll go model a few of these in blender, hmmmÉ
There could also be a huge bomb that once fired charges, during this time it could be destroyed. Twenty seconds before it goes off everybody will be notified about its presence. Near the very end of it count down( ten seconds be before it goes off) it could glow. Once its count down is complete it explodes destroying eveything in the sector. Once different kinds of sensors are implemented(like thermos sensors). It could show the object glowing before from the start. Its total charge time could be between 3 to 5 minutes.
Keep your sensors off my thermos! I need my thermos full of coffee!
