Timed trade mission should be tied to trade level

Jan 06, 2006 sarahanne link
In a different post it was mentioned that the trade timers don't reflect the Moth's ability to hual 120cu of goods. Often you can take the goods in far fewer trips than the time allows. I read that they use less than half the alloted time.

Have the missions more specific to your license levels and make the time related to the largest possible ship you could own.

Or have the mission set a requirement that the cargo has to travel in the hold of an Atlas.

Heh, the folks at the other end usually don't CARE how the goods get there, just that they GET there in the specified length of time.

If the rewards were more, I think I could deal with halfing the large bulk missions.

Or, have missions where it's 140 cu of something so that a Behemoth needs to team up with someone...

actually once past trade 13 (14?) the bulk missions take 122+ cu's of space so the total number of goods to deliver is tied to level, its just not very noticable because theres nothing above level 13.

Trade missions are all lame cause the only pressure you have is time, and if you don't make it in the allocated time you just don't get your bonus. There should be more penalties for not making it on time AND there should be things out in space actively trying to prevent you (other then ion storms) ie. pirates trying to gank you. And I'm a firm believer that the player base does NOT fill this role. There needs to be NPCs that are activated when the mission is started that try to intercept you. The allocated time should definitely be decreased, but should be based on the ship TYPE that you currently have active when you take the mission, so that if you are in an atlas when you take the mission and it will take you two trips, it gives you the time but just enough. Then, if you decide to upgrade after the fact you are sacraficing your time to unload, switch, and reload and depart, not to mention any interaction you have with storms/pirates/players etc.

It would also be interesting to see the hive take a more proactive role. They are simply farmers at this point. But why not have a few hunter/seeker "observer" class hive ships flying around in active trading lanes scanning trade ships for goods that would be useful for the hive. This would help explain why they have such nice weapons and engines, etc. It does not make sense at this point that they simply developed all the more advanced tech that they have and I don't think they are smart enough to fix advanced tech that has been salvaged from wrecked ships. They can salvage parts, but not create new tech, they're scavangers right?

... and that anyone with trade 13 and the slightest amount of sense HAS a behemoth already...

EDIT: Couldn't people then activate a bulk procurement in a Centurion and then switch to a Behemoth to benefit from the abnormally large time bonus?

From the game's own In-Transit Tip system:

AI hive queens are particularly adept at scavenging technology and integrating it into their own designs. Thus, while the queens cannot design new armaments, they've borrowed from 200 years of human innovation.

MSKanaka- Yes they could, but that's why I want there to be more in-space obsticles like pirates, hive swarms, competing corp ships, etc. attacking you while you "trade". It shouldn't be just about beating the clock, that gets boring after the first mission.

Yes they are great scavangers, not too good at actually "creating" tech. SOOO why not have them actively looking for new tech to steal. We are constantly doing missions where we are delivering schematics of top secret NEW tech, that's the kind of stuff that they should be scanning trade ships for, or even rare ores, prototypes, etc.

When we start seeing results of carting those datapads and prototypes all over the place, sure, I'd like to see the bots trying to steal it.

However, not until.

Beating the clock is always worth it when you need cash.

Honestly, there are easier ways to make cash but if you enjoy playing against a clock more power to you : )

exactly john : and if the hive gets them, then it will move toward the levi, and then you get a mission to stop the bot convoy, before it gets their, if it fails..the levi gets a new gun (first it comes with bus guns, for every few kills it gets better..hmm...new suegesstion!)

looking at the title.... they ARE.

there are very few missions which assume a cargo capacity of less than the actual of the player, and when they do, it's almost always because the player bought their moth at corvus, where they don't need the levels for it yet.

Hi. The existing trade missions will eventually all be going out the window, in favor of Deliverator-driven missions (like the new escort type stuff). These will have other factors than "time".

One of these days I'll write a big post about my vision for the "New Mission System" (which is, ironically, exactly like my vision for the original mission system). Everything will.. make more sense then, I think.

I should really go to bed.
