Valkyrie Rune & Centurion Mk II both need 50 drain to be worthwhile. Ever since their cargo capacity cuts & turbo drain increases, I haven't seen any reason for them to ever be used.
How about we just take away infiniturbo from the prom?
WHAT? Reducing the superiority of the prom?? CRAZY!!!!!!!! NO WAY!!!! We must have a ship that allows noobs to take on 5 opponents while having a coffee.

They took away infiniboost b/c of CtC? I thought they took it away b/c of.......I didn't even think of why they did it. I was just happy I had a better chance of winning the Deneb Run.
Sure, put it back.

Actually, all 50 drain ships should have their drain raised. Infiniboost is, and always has been, a bad thing. Unless you'd like to lower all 50 drain ships to 160m/s, like it used to be. That would also be acceptable.
How is infiniboost so evil?
I think Roguelazer is evil.
It's not evil. Having all infiniturbo, or all non-infiniturbo, means there's less variety. More variety is more interesting. So some ships should have infiniturbo, and others not.
I'd say the Valkyrie Rune should be the fastest infiniturbo ship, at 210 or 220 m/s; all the other infiniturbo ships should be between 150 & 200 m/s. Unless/until everything gets slowed down, which has been talked about. Infiniboost isn't so big of an advantage that it should be so much slower; a little slower yes, but not over 60m/s slower.
[edit]
The other thing I'd like to see, is have the turbo thrust on all the non-infiniturbo ships increased, so that they accelerate faster. IMO it makes more sense that turbo drain be more related to thrust than to top speed (although like I said above the top speed should be a bit lower on the infiniturbo variants). And I really hope the new UI shows the turbo thrust on the ship stats screens (in kN, not the incorrect N thrust is in now).
Oh, and somebody who's less lazy than I am needs to update the ships tables on vo-wiki.com

Yeah seriously. Infiniboost has NO combat applications, and is only useful for running away from pirates (good thing) and getting from place to place more quickly. The unfortunatle downside to giving Dr. Lecter his Valk Rune with infiniboost, is that he'll be able to catch us all a lot more easily when he's out pirating.
I don't think any specialty varients (read: Nation specific ships) should have infiniboost. Only the cheapest light vessels should have 50 drain. All an infiniboost Rune allows you to do is take pot shots and run away. It's a harassment setup, which is why it was changed. There is no reason to bring it back.
If that's the case, tumble, then why have the Rune at all? With its current stats, there's no reason at all to use it. The basic Valkyrie is better. It may as well be removed from the game. But I'd rather see it have infiniturbo again.
while i agree that the rune should get it's 50 drain back, i don't realy care that much. i mean the 55 drain on an IDF is so close to being infiniboost that the only application for a 50 drain valk would be well, i can't think of one actualy. it will make long trips slightly less iritating (not having to wate those couple seconds to charge up at the WH) and it would allow high speed patroling of a sector. neither of those strike me as nesesary or uber.
Also while i never perticipated in CTC, i still have to ask: how is a 50 drain Rune more unbalanced than the 50 drain hog II? i don't have the stats in front of me but i believe the hog mk 2 has a 220/50 turbo and a cargo capacity somewhere upwards of 10 (i may be wrong on that) i mean i guess 1S 1L is a less effective weapon load than 3S, but still.

No real weight to my claim? Declaring something doesn't make it so, lecter. At the time the Rune was the ship of choice for harassment, and it always got away. It's certainly not the only ship that can be used for harrassment, as you and your swarm centaur can attest.
If you want to travel with infiniboost, get a vult 1.

I'd like to see variable boost with a slight modification to the original idea.
A player can adjust the power that boost uses, but at 50/s, all ships travel between 170-190m/s. Smaller fighters (Centurion, Vulture, Valkyrie) have their lower boost bounds at 50/s and are interceptors as they can go faster than 190m/s at higher boost drain. Medium fighters (Warthog, Hornet, Marauder) can go a bit above 190 and a bit below 190 in exchange for the ability to actually have boost with a drain lower than 50. The largest fighters (Centaur, Ragnarok, Prometheus) cannot go higher than 50/s and can only regain energy for high speed rocket and/or gun strafing runs on capital ships. Say that for balance sake, at 50/s settings, light fighters have on average the slowest boost speeds, and the heavy fighters have the highest boost speeds.
Since we currently have no weapons that can fire backwards, being able to shoot and boost has only limited use in a dogfight, especially since with it, the rag couldn't run from a light fighter, nor trade shots, and a light fighter could easily disengage and put a lot of distance between it and the heavy fighter if it finds itself in trouble.
And at infiniboost, while yes, heavy fighters can run faster than infiniboosting light fighters, their heavier mass causes them to accelerate to their top speed much slower than the light, and the light can sacrifice infiniboost to get a much higher top speed.
So in a long chase, the heavy fighter would be able to get away, but the light fighter could also easily catch and shoot the heavy if it reacted fast enough. It would be impossible for a centurion to kill a completely undamaged heavy if it started too far awawy, but then that would be the point, right? It can't be too easy for the light fighter to kill the heavy alone. However, if the heavy tries to run from a dogfight, he'd be easy mincemeat.

I started reading that, but all I saw was blibbity blah blah. Get a Vulture Mk 1 and stop bitchin punk.
I'm sure there will always be balancing horses to beat, but in general players are more happy about getting something than losing something. This is year 4434. The fastest ships are cruising at 270 km/h, which is slower than a (decent) 2006 car, and turbo-ing at 900 km/h which isn't even faster than sound in Old Earth's atmosphere, and slower than a 2006 jet fighter.
IMHO balancing the game by adjusting speeds UP is more natural than adjusting speeds DOWN (TPG creates a new thrust device, or whatever). This will make our huge universe a little smaller and less mind-numbing to travel, infiniboost or not.

its not in meters, its in miters
The problem with increasing speeds up is that the faster the speeds get, the harder it becomes to control your ship, which detracts from the fun of the game. Already a lot of people think a lot of the speeds in the game are a bit too fast, and Incarnate was saying he might slow everything down 5% or 10%. Having a maximum speed at all isn't realistic, but it makes for a funner game, and if the maximum speed is too fast, it makes for a less fun game.
Let us all direct our ire toward the arguments, not the people making them.
Argumentum ad hominem is a logical fallacy.
/EDIT:
Tumble, I did note what he said, which is why my post above is addressed to "all". I wrote "all" and I meant "all". Lecter would be familiar with the concept of ad hominem arguments and could easily assume that I was speaking directly and only to him as well (which, again, is not the case). I was making a plea for people to "be nice" while arguing, which is in your best interest seeing as you've been offended here already.

FM - The "man" attacked me. Did you miss the bits about him telling me I was full of shit, implying I can't read (as if wading through his constant stream of 'I'm-better-than-you" bullshit is worth the reading), making a dig at what I do for a living, and prefacing every "argument" he made by implying one way or another that responding to it was below his station.
This might balance it. Give more light weiht ship infi boost and make large port weapons stronger or give light weight ship weaker armor. That way if a light weight ship is using hit and run tactics, a medium ship can shoot a powerful gun at him as he is running away.
Also light weight ships should be able to out accelerate heavy and medium ships because they are light weight after all.
