Channel names

Jan 01, 2006 Chikira link
Now this may not be a probably at the moment, but it will be soon.

Currently all our channels go by numbers for example channel 100 is general chat etc. (anyone who plays vendetta should know that) Here is the issue, what happens when channel 100 becomes crowded after the marketing push? It will be very difficult to unclog the channel, and would probably take a couple weeks. Just in order to save us all the hassle I'd like to suggest that the channel names be changed to what they really are.

For example:
Channel 100 is general chat type /join 100 to join
How about type/join general chat? Itani chat?

Or perhaps the Tutorial should cover how to switch channels...

i disagree, i like the chanel numbers (it remindes me of the the radio on my family's sailboat). As long as the tutorial gives an overviw of the inportant chanels i'd say it's fine the way it is.

[edit] The curent system seems more like a real comm system, whereas the named chat chanels seems more gamish

Why not leave the underlying system as the numbers we have now, but let characters assign names to them, like "/namechannel 100 General", and then they could use either the number or the name that they'd assigned to the channel. And if they assign a name to the channel, then in the chat it replaces the number, like this:
[100]<Beolach> What's up?
becomes:
[General]<Beolach> What's up?

Maybe assign a few default names to the main channels, and let characters unname/rename if they want.

Well, having names instead of numbers is why we have URLs:

and not

Same thing with 800 numbers, associating a catchy name or something with a number is easier to remember in general.

I would not mind having names instead of numbers. I'd especially like a graphical interface instead of a command-line function.

Example: click on a list of "channels" that you commonly use and be able to assign function keys to them without going through editing the wgaf file thingy.
