Nerf wormholes.

Make the radius smaller, say 300m ?
Nov 28, 2005 roguelazer link
Any reason why? Or do you just not like wormholes...

Instead of nerfing the moths :)

I think the WH's are fine the way they are.

So, a *small* ship like a moth, only has to get 1000m from a worm hole to warp?

I use rockets to send em off target, this may work if the wh radius was smaller, see the moth nerf thread by the devs, http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/12071#146552

I'll tell you why. Because the surface radius of a sphere is 4*pi*r^2. Wormhole radius currently is about 1000m which makes surace area about 12.5 mil m^2. If you reduce wormhole radius to 300m, wormhole surface area is about 1.3 mil m^2.

Now, 1 proxmine can guard a surface area of pi*r^2, with r=70m, thats roughly 15,000m^2. So 20 proxmines can guard roughly 300,000 m^2.

So the chances that you go thru a optimally-distributed-proxmine-covered wormhole and get blasted as you leave the sphere are currently roughly 3 out of 125, but if you switch wormhole radius to 300m, the chances improve to 3 out of 13.

Now if you end up inside the hole of course you might be able to shoot the mines.

But regardless of the specifics, this would all make mining much more fun!

Happens anyway, errm, your forgetting the new warp vunerability, and heh, ask 0 how martin claimed a mine bounty (even before that) :P

interesting suggestion, allways found the WH radius kinda big actually.

I agree that the radius needs to be smaller, but down to a 300m radius seems a bit extreme. Perhaps we could compromise at 500m?

How about just making the radius vary from wormhole to wormhole rather than keeping them uniform throughout?

Goes better with the way they're explained in the backstory, I think.

Yeah, shrink those bad boys... that'll kill off racing pretty much totally =D

isn't blocading access to a system against the ROC?

and isn't that prety muct the reasoning behinde reducing the radious of wormeholes?

seriously though, i don't think a reduction would hurt say make it 80% the curent radious to start out with
Nov 28, 2005 Harry Seldon link
Yes, WH radius needs to be drastically cut down, and some HUD overlay needs to mark where the WH is exactly, or something like that.

> isn't blocading access to a system against the ROC?

I would say no. The RoC say "You may not disrupt the normal playability of a sector or area.", but IMO a blockaded wormhole easily falls within "normal playability", unless the blockade exploits a bug causing a sector to crash or some such.

I'm for having different sized wormholes.
Nov 29, 2005 yodaofborg link
Yeah, differing sized worm holes would be neat, maybe make nation space ones bigger, and just the grey space ones real small.

[edit]

And Lord Q, if you litterally translate the ROC, I cant use my targetting computer.
Nov 29, 2005 terjekv link
different size, but also fluctuating size? hmmm. that'd be neat. =)
Nov 29, 2005 jexkerome link
Different size would be nice, but I think they should vary across the board, not just around greyspace. Fluctuation could be interesting, but sounds kinda difficult to pull off.

Oh, and this would be in addition to moth nerfing, not in place of it.

300m O.o.

So you mean I can park in the middle with a prom and people will warp in less than 300m from me. Sold :D
