how to stop pirating: give people jobs
just a in france, where in the slums unemployment is 50%, or in the american ghettos, a similar situation, idle hands attract the devil, and peoples aimless days fill with anger.
in vendetta we have a similar situation. it is a vast ghetto. ordinary citizens are banned from owning property such as stations, factories, businesses, the means of production, cleaning services, ship repair services, weapons manufacture, battery manufacture, ore refineries, bars, clubs, music stations (the state run radio stations only plays 4 or 5 songs over and over), & etc.
is it any wonder there is so much fighting? there is nothing else to do!

now now, there is a player run bar in odia m14
yea, and I use an interuniversal radio station =P
Trolling?
Nah, couldn't be, it's ananzi we're talking about here.
Jobs in Vendetta are needless. As for the fighting, even traders with proper jobs engage in it, so I think ananzi's finger-pointing is way off-target.
What we need is to empower a police force, filled up with the meanest players around, to enforce a no-fighting policy. Once everyone and his brother has been ganked repeatedly by this police force until they quit using fighters or leave the game, only then will we enjoy peace and tranquility throughout Known Space.
I call dibs on being the Commander of such a Police Force. The State must act swiftly if it's to avoid the chaos ananzi decries, so we'd better act fast.

And of course, the first job everyone should start out as is space janitor: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/8274
Beloach didn't u read that thread incarnate had, he said they are gonna have robots go around picking up old crates of scrap metal &c so it wont clutter the sectors! And yet they laughed at me. Where was I then, where am I now!
My point remains! While able bodied human pilots while away the hours ganking n00bs and little old traders, terrorizing miners and murdering mavens, what do they do? They go and give jobs to robots!
Unconscionable. This is just the sort of thing Karl Marx talked about in Das Kapital. Minus the french and 26 line footnotes.

no fighting = no danger
no danger = boring
boring = cancel subscription
Allright, throw all the fighters out and people will leave.

Basicly i think that trying to eliminate pirates in vedetta is like a wild goose chase.your never going to stop people from being bad, cause simply it's fun!also i think getting rid of pirates takes away a large element of the game.
So, I'd imagine Tumble at the employment office, like on that TV commercial:
"So, you're a former pirate with no formal training. You've got an eyepatch, a hook and a parrot on your shoulder..."
"Yaarrr!"
"...and all you can say is 'Yarr'..."
"Yaarrr!"

The pirates aren't to blame.
It's society's fault for not providing them with the incentive, or rather, the alternative. They see life as empty, and dead. Because of this, they want to destroy the lives of others.
It's not their fault. It's... ours.

YAAAAAARR!
I'm a trader. I usually fly with funnymines and maybe MAYBE swarms and proxies when going somewhere "dangerous".
I've even resorted to flying a Centaur just be be a better piracy target.
Why? It's FUN! The chase is a high, for both trader and pie rat.
Ofcourse, ingame I try to be In Character as much as possible, so you probably won't hear Zathras say that. *snicker*
