well, hit an ion storm in one of these and you are hosed. basicly the ability to jump between sectors is a last resort type gamble. You realy can't do mucg with one of theese without a station ot carier to back you up. even with the energy recharge weapon.
I too love this idea. I suggest a 10K capacity, a charge rate of 1-2/sec, and simply requiring 250 energy to jump instead of some percentage of a battery's energy (which doesn't make much sense to me anyway). This should be enough to allow for about 3-4 minutes of fighting/turboing, and would allow someone to jump, like out of an ion storm or a mis-jump, in a couple minutes of careful piloting.
Hi,
if you stuck in a sector without enery to warp then:
- you can charge the warp engine manually with an emergeny dynamo (10 minutes)
- you call for a tow. A friend or a tugboat comes and takes you to a nearest station.

Darkwood

Ooohhh....
/me sees another excuse to bug the devs about making tractor beams...

Tractor beams would require inverse kinematics, which is on the "eventually" list. It'd be easier to make the "tugboat" a mini-cap ship with room for one docked ship.
Basically a box (hangar), an engine, and a cockpit. Let me make a quick model of that...
I think something a little more sizable, though duly ugly would be more fitting - 2 or 3 ships could fit into something like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/Dimpfinator/gruntwork.jpg
Yes, I hacked my model up to make that... :P

looks like a bus on steroids :P
No, you've got it all wrong!
Bus on steroids would be this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/Dimpfinator/Busmk2.png
It's a logical progression from bus to truck!

I like the idea of short non-rechageable batterys.Cuase if player controlled cap-ships are going to happen, then im guessing that if fighters want to play with the big capships they would have to be in fleets.Npc pilots desighened to target capships weakspots at as close a range as possible. So that the big slow turrets cant track the small fighters. And with small capacity batteries then you would want to luanch your "Ordnance" as close as possible (then get out as quickley as possible so you wont fall victem to the capships guns) so that they dont waist batterie power getting to the enemy capship.
Wonderful idea!
Regarding jumping into a sector by accident, if someone's stupid enough to make that mistake, they shouldn't get to /explode (ESPECIALLY if they can home at a cap ship, or maybe just the battery costs a lot so that's not a good option), they should have to wait for another person to shoot them down, pick them up, or use the energy-transfer-gun which also is a really cool idea.
And if they're in an ion storm!? Players with this battery should not be leaving the cap ship until they're in a safe sector. To get into an ion storm they'd have to jump on their own, and in that case dying serves them right.

Smittens:
Pff, that's stupid. Something that makes it so that you can only drift in space is ALWAYS a bad idea, because being a sitting duck is simply not fun. It should have a really slow recharge rate, so that jumps are possible, but if you make mistakes, it'll cost you some time.
Sometimes, there just aren't people available to help rescue you, particularly during times of the day when there aren't many people on. I like the idea of a non-charging battery, but there has to be another alternative for jumping.

I think the best idea is to have it recharge to only 250 - at a rate of 1/s.
So, for the first time in Vendetta, being an idiot will actually be penalized!

Here's my take on the tow ship-- It looks like a cross between the transport from X-Wing and a Prom, but oh well.

Or maybe just make the battery really expensive so they have to /explode but lose $
I think the non-recaharge batterie for human players would be some thing like this:If you run out of batterie power in the midle of a hot-zone then you could go back to your capship without your ship then take the energy transfer gun and shoot your ship with some power and start flying again and it would be tedious to do it all the time.
And that would also keep in terms with realty. You could ask someone onboard the capship to shoot you with energy like raidioing an oficer but you do it yourself.
It also opens up possibillitys for the carrier should be heavy and slow but able to get in there to deploy ordnance without teking much damage or should it be fastand lightly armourmed ok to cathch up to the ship and deploy but if it sticks around it as good as dead
.Finaly if your ever able to build fleets of capships this would make a good start to that.
By the way whats the link for the place to drop off photos?

For some reason, the boards are redirecting that to the wrong place.
That link is somehow directed to:

The correct link is:

It's appending the end-italics BBCode [ /i ] (without the spaces) to the URL. Whenever you put in a URL, make sure there's a blank space after it.
