microsoft access database

Sep 30, 2005 ananzi link
this got me thinking, why not! cant open source VO but at least publish the microsoft access database that you use to store all the player information.

netcraft showed that access can hold 5 gigabytes of RAM in non destructive testing i can only imagine how much your database is.

this would be fun for us to look at, all the hit kill and weapons ratios, with simple SQL and Visual Basic statements.

thanks in advance

Hacker is damn right (as in golf)

Why on earth would they want to do this?
Why on earth would they want to do this with access?

Above statement is assuming the devs don't use access for their DB. Judgung from previous comments about access I hope my assumption is correct.

Ananzi, if you want any stats post them to the stats thread in RP. It;s pretty likely someone will provide them, if it's not a ridiculous request.

While you're at it, could you publish everyones home address and phone number as well? I'd like to call Genka and call him an idiot in a loud whiny voice...

I'd rather give genka and ananzi's addresses to various mail-spam organizations :D

as i said in game, im sure they use MS access because that is what google uses to store the internet.

one thing we can never get is which weapons and so forth are responsible for most kills. that is something only the power of "the Digital Nervous System"(tm), from Microsoft, can bring to you and your family.

do you remember those microsoft ads with that cool hip art chick and all the sparkles and shit everywhere?

i mean, thatd be awesome if that could be in vendetta. sparkles and like birds and stuff. rainbows.

Can you post how you have come to the conclusion that Google runs on an access database? To say it sounds unlikely is an understatement.

Even if Google does use MS Access (which I'm very much not convinced of), how does that have any bearing on what Guild Software uses for VO?

Its simple: Ananzi wants to help you with programing :)

Btw, the lisp topic was locked before I inserted my question so here it is:
How do you put new rules into the AI? Do you have to modify the lisp code for each rule or you have some easy-to-handle database of rules?

Maybe its against Guilds rules but try to give some tasks to fanatic players.
If nothing else you find then let them develop diferent cockpit for all ships. ...Or the AI behavior for common NPCs...or whatever

We write our idea on this board but why should we? Most of time the devs do not answer ... only other players tries to push you behind with their own idea.

i know google uses ms access, what else would they use, excel?

access is very simple, u type in data and then when you close the program its still there when you rebot. genius! communist linux zealots cannot have this with their so called 'operating system'.

google also looks a lot like an access 'intro screen', check it out some time. its got a box and u type in it just like in access. decompile the code some time, it is full of _MSAC operands to the CPU.

i think VO and google have a lot in commin: google stores the internet, VO stores the universe. both use python and have linux versions. using cross inspection tools, though, reveals the same _MSAC codes inside the VO binary object payload.

my immense brain is nothing to trifle with. form more detailed arguments in the future if you wish to tangle with my gargantuan intellect.

Hehe I could see this situation happening...

Warping into Sedina B8 and finding tumblemonster, LeberMac pages thru the database of phone numbers until he finds tumblemonster's #...

*ring ring! (Phone rings at stately tumblemonster manor)

<tumblemonster> hold on phone...
<LeberMac> OK
*tumblemonster "Hello?"
LeberMac destroyed tumblemonster
*LeberMac "Sucka!"
*tumblemonster "Damn you leber STOP calling me!!!"

OMG he lies. The internet is actually stored in a big filemaker database instead.

See Proof -------------------------------------->>> that way

I can only assume you do realize there are many other, better, more efficient and cheaper database solutions out there than Access and you're just trying to stir up trouble.
