When trading in large quantaties in real life, you get discounts for buying in bulk and I think the same should apply to buying trade goods (Moth pilots would really appreciate this) so you could buy say 1000 of an item at a reduced price, keep it in the station hold and make lots of runs to surrounding stations, kinda like intersystem-wholesaling.

The devs are already reworking the economy system.

Once dynamic economics are put in, however, hoarding an item that later becomes scarce WILL make for increased profits. I can already see the pirates plotting to become even richer by selectively blockading stations and cargoes...
