can the group members have a voice channel?
Something like ventrillio. It can be full of noise and bit disfigured to save bandwith and keep the feeling :)

darvud- So many questions! Hehe.
A lot of us use external chat or voice comm like skype or teamspeak.
I think this has been suggested before, but as I recall, incorporating something like this ingame would require some kind of licensing fee per seat methinks (for whatever functionality they adopt) and it was put aside due to the licensing issue.
Perhaps someone else with a better memory could enlighten me.

The license is problem only if you use ventrillo client/server.
If the UI contains home-made chat client that communicates with the game server then its a bandwith problem :)

PS: I was a big Elite fan and I want this MMORPG to be a success. ... and my trial account tick down soon ...

well, a guild created voice chat will probably be a long way off since there is no need for it and there are so many other more inportant things on the dev's big list o' stuff to do.
personaly i've never found a need for voice chat. although it would be nesesary for any sort of squadren operations.

External, dedicated VoiceCom has a lot more pro's then con's.
Let's say we get Vendetta internal voice com:
- Server load increases for voice data dispatch
- Bandwith consumption (for Guild Software) increases, decreasing revenue.
- Development Time better spent on bettering the game is spent re-inventing the wheel
- You'd have to load a big ol' 3D-engine to voicecom your ingame pals for a moment to say you'll be late for the raid.
What if we use existing stuff, like ventrillo and teamspeak?
- Vendetta servers will never know
- Bandwidth use for us is next-to-nothing, the Guild Software bandwidth is only affected by less chat (not noticable, I'd guess)
- Development Time is spent on the actual game
- Use pre-existing wheels ;)
- "Hi! Smee! Late for the raid, sorry!" without 300MB of memory use and 60 seconds of loading.

You are right, Demonen ( mostly :). On other hand ...
... VO is a sci-fi MMORPG with hightech stuffs. And a low quality, noisy com device can improve the game feeling.

Hm. I remember you could talk to others in your vicinity in Marathon...
Anyway, I'm rather for the third-party approach, too, since it's valuable dev-time we're talking about here.

You want low-quality, noisy voice coms? Use skype or teamspeak, but have your speakers turned way up, and use a pair of headphones for a mic. It sounds just like an AM radio that's been beaten with a hammer and run through the dishwasher!
