Beginer quests

Hi,

the low-level quests are very boring.

My suggestions:
1./ add diferent rewards. Not only cache but some spec equipment; map of treasure hiden in an asteroid; ID to enter rogue stronghold or permission to trade with renegades.
2./ More interaction with NPC-s. I would like to ask for clues the NPC ships, inkeepers, starbase navigators. I would like to have a word with ppl in escapepod or saved slaves.
3./ I am human, not a ship. I would like to see my own face and I would like to see the other ppl when I speak with them. Even the quest givers can be a bit more human.
4./ More skills. The game is a bit simple now with time it will be better (I hope). For example: "Repair skill". Ships are repaired automaticly when you enter the base. But if you have to spend some money and "argue" with technics then you can have the repairs cheaper or tune the ship better.

+1./ build some newbie playgrounds. The bot hunting quest is good but I suggest to build small repair depos near the asteroid fields with lowlevel bots. It will save lot of newbie from boredom of jumps.

Regards,

Darkwood

PS: A BIG problem: what to do with the money? I finished some newbie quests, reached lvl 1 licenses and earned 80k cache. My fully equipped ship costs only about 3k ... so why do I need to trade goods, mine or do quests?

Bye

1. Absolutely agree. As do the developers. They're working on a mission generation system, I imagine we'll start seeing a lot of new quests.

2 & 3. I think these 2 are related, since I think the lack of real negotiation can be linked to the perception that our avatars are our ships. More dialogue would be great, and is probably forthcoming. Though I too would love to see more individuality than just ship color.

4. An interesting idea, and probably doable with the new User interface that the devs have been planning. (But I have no idea what the UI consists of, so I could be totally off the mark on this one)

What keeps people playing right now tends to be 1 of 3 things.
1. The pursuit of money (which I, like you, don't understand, there's nothing really unique to buy. But there's supposed to be an economy change in the near future as well)

2. PvP, the "kung-fu" aspect is very appealing, but at the same time, there's only so long that this holds interest as well. As the devs put it on the design wiki, "Pvp: vague ego-driven purpose".

3. Roleplay: this has picked up quite a bit, but is also generally related to PvP, and tends to degrade into dueling.

we'll see what happens in the next couple months.

I agree with Shape on this (which means I agree with Darkwood on all the items Shape agreed with him); just wanted to add some comments:

- Newbie areas are in the works, since eventually the New Hive will be in most every sector and botting will be next to impossible for a newb. The Devs have spoken of training grounds filled with nation drones designed just for the purpose of teaching pilots the ropes. Also, these areas will be immune to Hive infestation. Whether this areas will still be PvP-capable is anyone's guess, but the smart money is on "yes".

- As for money, once you start PvPing with regularity you'll see it go away fast. Regular PvPers can be seen in a cycle of "trade to make as much cash as quickly as possible, and then spend said cash PvPing until I need to trade again". And, like Shape said, changes to teh economy are incoming. The first is a small price adjustment (coming in about a month or so) and the second is a major overhaul of the economic system to bring it more to line with the Devs' grand ideas for the game.

Oh, and as for human faces (a la EnB), it might be the new UI system could allow for those, but nothing's been said about that.

Yeah, I lost over 2 million this weekend on Hive-related attacks and Capship battles. Gah.

So, yeah, money goes quick when you're as drunk as I am and piloting a Rocket Rag into Leviathan-controlled space.

Darkwood - I think that the overall economy will begin to take shape once this hive A.I. thing gets taken care of. Then, money will begin to mean something as the prices for items will fluctuate up and down according to the laws of supply & demand in a ever-changing dynamic economy.

Darvud, once you get into PvP, cap ship battles and Capture the Cargo, you won't know where all your money goes. During the course of one cap ship battle, you can potentially buy yourself a new ship up to twenty times, if you're really bad at PvP and really quick to return to combat ;-) And each time will cost you between 10 000 - 25 000, depending on your weaponry and ship preferences.

Then, in the far future, there might be cap ships to buy and player-controlled stations to build, and hopefully, they won't come cheap (cheap being just a few millions creds). Then you will find even more use for your money.
