Immersion enhancement
Something that would, at least for me, greatly enhance the immersion factor of VO, would be a tab in the station screen with a picture/symbolization of the system, and a text entry that describes the system, its planets, history and significance in the greater VO historical and political context. The only thing we currently have along these lines is the info in the universe map on each system, and that is very basic. I'd like more. Much more.
Agan, as in many other threads, I refer to the Escape Velocity series (kinda hard for a mac user not to do while discussing space games) ;-) I'm thinking of the landing pictures and planet descriptions, but, of course, modified to suit the fact that in Vendetta, you dock with stations, and thus the system information tab would be system-wide and general.
As it is now, I just don't feel that I'm actually a starship pilot visiting different systems, as most places look more or less the same (of course, this is also a problem inherent in the cosmic make-up of space), and each station's interface is identical to the next. Just something to bring more identity and diversity to the different systems would be wonderful. And could we be given the feeling that we are actually visiting a unique space station, with a community, bustling and thriving population, and a history of it's own, VO would have come a long way towards being the ultimate space game. Also, this would bring more of VO's backstory into the game, of which I am a great fan. I've heard it said that the dev's (well, at least incarnate) wants to see more of the storyline represented in the actual game, and this would be a wonderful way to do that.
This is not a high priority for me, but in the long run, I think it's absolutely necessary if Vendetta is to be more than just a flexible fps set in space. At least I know I need it to be fully immersed in the game. And, when I think about it, I realize I find immersion just as important in an MMORPG as a good engine, crammed feature list and interesting PvP.

yea, there will eventually be a noticable differnece between factions and even between different types of station inside a faction.
Unfortunately the devs need to focus on gameplay content in the short term, and a lot of immersion and eye-candy stuff is being left till later, when they have a bit more in place.
Hopefully we will get the new missions shortly and different factions will have distinct missions. at least that will be a little flavor.

Ye, I'm thankful for every little tidbit of flavour and story that seeps and leaks into the universe. As you say, distinct faction missions would definitively be a step towards greater immersion.
But I still can't stop meself from dreaming about when every station will have their distinct backstory and place in the VO universe, and when you will truly feel like one more astronaut and just another starseeker... *drools*

Wouldn't it be great if a race of sexually promiscuous cat-girls started humping everyone's ships violently, because they needed to reproduce?! You could have great pictures, with loads of gratuitous panty-shots, although not too sexy, or my mom will protest.
It would be great if you'd write their back-story so they like balding, pimply, fat nerds with coke-bottle-bottom glasses best, and hate all jocks.
Edit: Also, they have to have eyes the size of a normal man's heart, that's a big thing for me.

Wow. That was inane.
No, Rogue... that was genka.
It was a great idea, is what it was.
Really, I'm surprised. I'd have expected you two to be the top supporters of the nymphomaniac catgirl idea...

how cute, genka describes himself.
Jona: pay no attention to genka, hes the forum idio.. err troll.

I'm not saying it's not a good idea, genka. Sounds like fun to me. It's still inane, though. See, that idea needs its own thread, not this one.
Actually... I think there's enough info in the backstory right now to do that for several systems right now.
I'll add them into the UID database.

if you havent allready check the devwiki also celkan. I think it has some info on a few of the corps up as well that you might be able to steal some planetary data from. :)
Thanks, Spellcast, but have no fear. I think Genka is just precious! Genka, do you come in different sizes, or do I have to make room for in my room once I buy one?
And, you know, Genka... I have a cat at home. We could dress her up in a schoolgirls outfit, jury-rig her with wires and metal bars so that she must walk on two legs, and have her rub her crotch passionately against a plastic model of the Millenium Falcon. It's not digital, and you probably won't be able to watch her do it while in the midst of the large-scale PvP chaos at Sedina, but you'd be halfway there, man...
As for the few posts in this thread actually related to the original issue, anything that brings more of the backstory of VO into the game has my vote! Call me 'that immersion roleplaying dude with a messed up game development focus', but lately, I've come to view this just as important as engine enhancements and graphics improvements... So, keep up whatever yer doing to bring about more of this, Celkan, Spellcast, the rest of you, and, most notably, the devs... ;-)
