Farewell Vendetta

Sep 02, 2005 shock link
In a few days My Vendetta account will expire, though I have enjoyed my experience, I will not be re subscribing.

It may seem like a waste of time to mention this in the message boards, but I wanted to give a proper farewell to the players and the developers, because this is a pretty special game.

First, I want to say that the message boards have been great, When I first started I made a lot of suggestions, and they seemed to be very well received even if they were not considered. Most importantly the message boards were a very supportive arena. So many message boards are so nasty and vicious. (anyone visit www.aintitcoolnews.com often?) The VO boards have a supportive sense of community, and I got involved in several posts where I felt that I had really interacted with the project. The VO community is so small, That works against it in many ways, but at the same time it is a tight nit group, I recall interacting with members in the boards... then getting blasted out of space by them later. So Thank you fellow VO Community.

I have been a member for about nine months, Initially a quest for a fun flight sim after the purchase of my new flight stick (Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro USB) I went looking for a new game for my Macintosh. I found VO, and though I didn't like the MMOLRPG aspect, the unique credit card less trial account got me hooked. Even though I was not part of the Alpha or Beta process, I think I was relatively early in the commercial life of VO because things were changing constantly those first couple months.

VO Is far from perfect, but for a game not put out by a major game developer, VO is very impressive. I could list some of my grievances, but I don't want to take this post in that direction. The developers should be applauded. From what I understand, Guild software is four computer geeks from Wisconsin whom on their first foray into game development created VO. And a game that was instantly available for Mac OS and Linux as well as Windows. That is fantastic.

After being on for nine months, I think I may have only played for five or six. I Live and work in Los Angeles, CA. And along with my day job I am a film maker and do creature special effects on the side. I just don't have the time to play VO all the time, and I don't have the disposable income to always be paying for a game that I am too busy to play. However I feel very proud to have given some support to game developers from my home state of Wisconsin. Regrettably I will be canceling, but I very much intend to return some day, and hopefully I will be as impressed with what VO has become, as I was when I first discovered it.

Because I usually made posts in in the "Suggestions" boards, I wanted to share this hear, but to make this post Suggestion board valid, I have one last Suggestion.

I think that Guild software should make a non-online version of vendetta, but not a stripped down version of VO, but a new game within the VO universe. The ships, the planets, the history between Itani and Serco, all those elements would transfer fantastically into another game. A game that could have more dramatic elements, because it is not worried about having it be real time around the world. I saw some video of the latest Star Fox game, and it looked fun as hell. What if that was a Vulture you were flying though a huge space battle. Several capital ships, and lots and lots And LOTS of other enemy and Allied ships. A game that could be on Mac, Linux and PC, but maybe even Xbox, Game cube and Playstation as well. More flight sim freedom then Star Fox, But a more dynamic and cinematic look than what can be done with a pure flight sim.

The Mythology already exists, The Graphics engine already exists. The fans already exist. All that has to be made is the levels. Think of all the things that could never be done with a MMOLRPG and you could do it in a stand alone game. I don't like the pay per month games, I think that in order to survive in those games, you have to be very die hard about always playing. I always felt out gunned with in the last few months, by other players who had logged much more hours that I had. I simply can not give that much time away to a game, as fun as it may be. I haven't seen a few of my friends for a very long time because they are addicted to World of Warcraft. Another down side to MMOLRPG's

Farewell Vendetta, I hope to return someday. Till then, keep up the good work Guild Software,
