I would like to see the whole of ship speed dropped a bit myself.

I suffered a bit of a disconnect from combat when things started getting faster and some of the joy I got from earlier gameplay left.

I can hardley track the small speedy cents on my screen, it's become less an issue of skill and more hardware, geographic location (low ping), or luck that lets me splode one.

I'm interested in what other people think about this. How do people who never played at the slower speeds feel (remember we're not talking about a huge difference in speed here, more of a tweak)?

instead of making just the ships slower, why not do a complete content speed reduction of a certain %, that way all that we have now is the same, just everything is a bit slower paces, and therefor easier for the more geographically challenged or those with low end hardware. That to me seems to be the easiest and fastest way to fix this with minimul change.

NO!
I got skills and I like to use them.
Slowing me down will nerf my skillage just so some europeans can die slower.
Increase the weapon speed, we like fast paced.

Kix, while I agree with you personally, I can understand why slowing it down might be better for all.

If they slow down the faced paced combat I will leave the game.

That came off a little brash.

Don't be a baby like [BLAK] was. IF they do this, why not try it out, maybe you'll find that your skillage will be even more l33t since your better at fast pace you should have no trouble handling a slightly slower version, especially since everything else will be slowed down by the same % hopefully. And this is all a bit "IF"

If you got skills why can't you dodge rockets like some of us Kix? I can dodge them just fine but they seem to be to much for you, so what exactly are you talking about?

I was looking for more of a discussion in this thread. Besides the difference in speed wasn't that much so, could you put some details into your post or stay out of the thread?

And please, we're not little kids here, if you're going to take your ball and leave then do so without threats. That's become a little droll. Anyway combat was plenty fast before as well so I just don't know where this reaction is comming from.

Combat was plenty fast paced when ship movements were slower. You just had to pre-think maneuvers a little more. If anything, I thought it was a bit more methodical and intense. The speeds were changed because of "first impression" type complaints over the speeds. The vets of the era didn't really voice a need for faster ships.. just new people who were used to other games. So it was more a "saleability to new users" thing.

Keep in mind, I'm also talking a 5% decrease. Not exactly a wildly dramatic change. Noticable, yes, but not massive.

how bout taking down weapon seed instead?
Aug 25, 2005 KixKizzle link
Hoax I can dodge rockets just fine.
I could dodge for eternity.
All I gotta do is hold down the turbo button.

OR I could backup for 10+ minutes waiting for you to run out of ammo and then come in and kill you. Infact when I did this today I was down to 25% and my enemy was at 75% when they ran out of ammo. They had 1 neut so I came in dodging and picked them off. I prefer fighting fights equally though and seeing as how they only need to hit me 2 or 3 times with the right weapons I would like to have faster weapons so that the playing field is leveled.

And no I won't stay out of the thread but thank you for the option.

i think the problem is the clasic realisam vs gameplay issue

on one hand even 300 m/s is very slow for an interstellar space ship.

on the other hand manuvering at 80 m/s is more than some players can handle (althoug i think most could probably dogfight as high as 90 m/s)

the problem is this: while our characters may be hot shot fighter-pilots with years of martial arts training and/or various bio-mechanicle augmentations, we the players are average people playing a game. So the question is how do we balance the fast paced one slip and you're dead world of 43rd century fighter combat with the 21st century video game?

I personaly like the speeds we have now. I have in the past said that they are too low (from a realisam point of view) but as far as game balance goes i think ships are about as fast as they can be and still be controlable. I actualy had a hard time manuvering a Rev C into the docking bay the first time i flew one (that was partly due to the fact that i was flying a moth just prior). of coarse this is a biased opinion as i live on the easter coast of the US so i don't have to deal woth the lag created by living overseas. I would support a slight reduction in ship speeds if the intent os to reduce lag for those outside the US. I however will not support a reduction in ship speeds for the perpus of changing the balance of dogfighting. i think dogfighting is well balanced at the moment.

Hmm, well I dodge them by strafing and short bursts of turbo, not sure why that doesn't work for you. And I'd prefer you do stay in the thread, I'd just like your posts to be fleshed out, not just: no this is stupid... why is it stupid is more important.

John, cheap shot, take another at my friends and I'll post THAT chat log

simple solution that will keep happy the people like me, who think ships should be -faster-, not slower: speed up weapons.

Eh, I agree with inc on this one, its hard enough on the people abroad as it is.

I hope this game already has an epilepsy warning... because if it doesn't...

As I recall, a lot of vets in fact voiced their distaste for this speeding-up stuff when it first happened.
I know I did.

Edit:
The BLAK lance are [removed]! Neener, neener, pussies! Weeeee!
Thank god they're kinda gone. Too bad they're really not.

And shape's a ninny.

'nother vote for slowing things down. I dunno, combat just seemed more interesting back in alpha.

Suuuuuuure...
