Will they ever make them downloadable from a browser, instead of having to use the updater? I know it isn't a big issue for most people, but I bet a few of us would be happy to see this happen.
I think there was something planned for the future where some updates would be optional, such as high-res users being given an update on the textures, etc.
I admit I took a look at the interface for the updater with some of the mac devtools (note that this was before any of the real strict guidelines came about, I did this in october or so) trying to see if there was an easy way to go about it--I couldn't come up with anything on my copy of the interface that I was messing with, but I assume we'll have some update utility much like the Software Update app in the future.

I have 10+ copies of VO scattered everywhere, and it's a pain to have to sit through the update process for every one of them before being able to use them.

10 copies?! Where the hell at?
for me, 2 at home, 6 at different boxes at work (one on OS X, one on Windows, one on my primary workstation (Linux) one on a box connected to a projector... the list goes on...), 1 within an instance of VNC... it grows quickly.
you got VO to play through VNC? Wow.
all you need is a client that supports OpenGL. no biggie.
That, and 10GB ethernet. :P Last time I played through VNC (using gemsvnc), it was... very unplayable.
eh, you don't play through VNC. :-p
