Serco should "Claim" Helios
I think that the Serco should take over Helios, and I have a couple reasons for it.
1)Provides an advantage in defending: As of right now if the Serco get invaded from grey they have two different systems to defend. If they were to take Helios they would then only have to defend at one system, instead of two.
2)Serco are very based on military so they should be expanding as much as possible.
3)Helios does not border on any other nation space, so it should be safe to take over without dispute.
What do you guys think? Approve? Disaprove?

Hmmm...
I don't really see any strategic advantage to it. Currently, they "need" to defend
Initros and Pyronis. All that would change by "taking over" Helios would be that
Serco would then be defending Initros and Helios.

I would have to disagree...mostly because I know of a few good Helio Roids there and have really bad Serco standing...

the reason above is exactly why I approve >:D lol j/k but it should be like deneb where the WH leading to ukari is open but should have other stations located around the roid fields and such
oh and ukari should have a serco station in the sector where the WH leads to initros

Here's my thoughts on claiming systems: it should be an in-game event, triggered by the actions of players. I'd like to see Deneb, Geira Rutilus, Helios, Ukari, Latos, and Edras made claimable soontm. All the other systems should not be claimable, until the exploration expansion (which will allow discovery of new systems) is complete, after which all systems should be claimable. However, Capital systems (Itan, Sol II, and Dau) should only be claimable if they are the last system claimed by a nation. Also, a nation should only be able to claim systems that it borders on.
Here's my opinion on how claiming systems should work: a system should be unclaimed (grey) if no nation has at least two stations more than any other nation in the system for a certain period of time (48 hours?). If one nation does have two more stations than the other nations, then that nation claims that system. UIT sub-factions (TPG, Orion, Tunguska, etc) should count as UIT stations for the purpose of claiming systems, but UIT must have at least one UIT (non-sub-faction) station in order to claim a system.
Players should be able to construct, destroy, and capture stations, in order to shift control of a system. Newly constructed or captured stations should either be solely player owned (in which case the owning player has complete control over the station, but the station does not count towards any nation for control of the system), owned by a player guild (guilds should be able to specify if their guild gives allegiance to a specific nation, or the guild can claim independance. If a guild pledges its allegiance to a specific nation, then that guilds stations count toward their nation in order to claim systems, but the guild has less control over the station. If a guild is independant of the nations, then the guild has more control over the station, but the station does not count towards control of the system). Also, there should be an option for newly constructed or captured stations to be signed over completely to a specific faction (so UIT players who like buying Rev. C's might sign a station over to Orion, or to Axia if they like Axia Accelerated Positron Blasters). If a station is signed over to a faction, then it's completely run by that faction, the way stations are today, and would count towards that faction's nation for control of the system.

Well Id like to have Pelatus for myself. Kinda like it a lot and my secret wh is there and its fairly empty, not much to see or do there for anyone, soooo....what do you say devs? Willing to sell me Pelatus?
I will offer double what you devs are willing to sell Pelatus to bojansplash for. I want that secret wormhole.
And I agree with Beolach: let the serco players fight to capture and keep the system if they want it so much.

Everyone knows it, so..... we must have it.

Ah, but will yoda be on your side, bojan? I'd think he'd be on his own side, trying for sole possession. But maybe he'll pretend to be on your side, at first....
Naah, yoda and me have an agreement about Pelatus.
And we do shoot each other a lot but thats ok.:)

a sign to point the way?
fun fun!
fun fun!
Beo, I'm hoping that's EXACTLY what the Dev's implement in the future!! Every time I log in, I want to see the map (hopefully fully dynamic) be different as the tides of war shift the systems one way or another.
It'd be just my luck that I wake up, look out my mining station window, and see a Leviathan tossing Avalons at my station for it's juicy premium ores :P The day I see the Hive consider a station a logical threat to their expansion, and send waves of bots to wreck it will undoubtedly be the coolest day of the VO universe.

Does anyone still remember the epic battles to defend the Blue Homeworld from them Red and Gold bastards. Waves of brave blue valks threw themselves into Sector 7 to keep the invading armada at bay. Good old times ...
ayuh, damned Serco noob-killers. For a little while there we had a running patrol between the s7 and s8 wormholes. But that's neither here nor there...
red bastards?!?!?!?
/me hits andreas with a metal pipe
but yeah, fun times, s7 was the best!

Ok, in an attempt to drag this back on topic, I offer this:
The idea of claimable systems in my opinion is great, to an extent. We've all seen the imbalances that can occur due to a gaming population not choosing one side or the other for whatever reason (see CTC). I think this would be hard on the game if the entire universe was claimable, and over one month or so, one side claimed the entire universe.
I would suggest that only a number of systems be claimable. Make it a good number, maybe just a few under half. I don't have a map in front of me, but maybe just the sectors up to the serco and itani capitals: Deneb, Eo, Cantus, Metana, Setalli Shinas on the Itani side. And Giera Rutilus and Betheshee on the Serco side. I'm not sure if the difference in number of original claimable sectors would matter. But if you look at the map, it would mean that the fewest systems one side would control would be five. And five wouldst be the number that thouest would control, and the number of the controlling shall be five. Six shalt thou not control, nor either control thou four, excepting that thou then proceed to five. Seven is right out! Once the number five, being the fifth system be.. **gawk!*
Ahem... sorry.
Secondly, I don't think that Serco nor Itani should be able to claim either UIT nor grey space, and vice versa, UIT can not control Serco nor Itani space. UIT being neutral it would not make any sense in an RP'ing light.
BUT! We all know how grumpy those silly little capitalists can get when they get left out of the games (again, see CTC)!
UIT can take over grey space, creating safe, strike force patrolled trade routes for their merchants. And on the flipside of that, players who have succesfully changed their faction to corvus could attack and claim UIT space in the name of the Holy Pirate! Destroying those pesky strike force bases that thwart their honest attempts at securing a livelihood!
Anyway, thats my thoughts.
