Mentor System
Well, the UC Battery Availability thread has started to get kinda derailed with a discussion of the mentor system, so I thought I'd start a new thread for this, so we can keep that thread more on the topic of the UC battery.
The big problem I see with the mentor system as it is now, is that it's actually easier to abuse it than to use it correctly. It's easier to offer out a free mentor point on channel 100 just before you level, than it is to actually find a mentor when you need one. Especially as those who most need a mentor don't know much (if anything) about the mentor system.
Shapenaji suggested getting rid of the mentor points system entirely. I actually like that suggestion pretty well. One of the nice things about the Vendetta Community is that most players are willing to answer questions & help out new players, even without bothering to get invited to be an official mentor. I see a lot of the VO players listen on channel 1 & answer any questions that pop up there, even without asking to be made a mentor.
So, one option would be to remove the mentor points system entirely. Another option would be to keep the mentor points, but other than the badges, don't have any other reward.
But if the mentor points system is kept, there are a few things I'd like to see, to make it easier to use properly, and less easy to abuse.
The first thing I would like to see is a /mentor offer command, so that players could offer to be mentors, without having to teach the other player how to use /mentor invite. Both commands should be available, so that either a prospective student or mentor could initiate the mentor relationship. This would hopefully make it easier to use the mentor system correctly.
Another thing I'd like to see, to make it more difficult to abuse the mentor points system, is some limitations on when mentor points can be given. One thing that should help with that, is to only allow a student to rate their mentor after gaining a license that they had less than 75% of the XP for when they first entered the student/mentor relationship. That way players can't offer out free mentor points when they notice they're close to leveling.
Something I am of two minds about, is limiting the number of mentor points a player can give out. I actually like how a new player can (in theory) reward everyone who helps him, by /mentor inviting them all & rating them good mentors. But this does leave it open to being abused, with players handing out mentor points to players that didn't actually do much mentoring. If a limit is put on the number of mentor points a player can give, I think it should be fairly high, at least 10 points. I don't think it would be good to have a limit on how high license levels a player can have and still give out mentor points. No matter how high a players licenses are, other players may still be able to be worthwhile mentors to them.

The mentor points bug was addressed and now you are limited to 3 points per account. Not character but account.
Oh, I must have missed that. I still see people offering mentor points on 100...
And I'd still like to see a /mentor offer command.

it are probably new accounts/players.
Besides these 3 points don't work recurrently but started to count after the fix.
