Flak Cannons?
FOR FRIGATES!!
Imagine a weapon that has a spray radius similar to the flechette cannon (aka popcorn gun). Except this gun has an extremely high velocity (hitscan) and uses a timed detonator rather than a proximity one. You essentially just shoot these flak cannons in the general direction of the enemy, leading off the target a little bit in the reticle. And a series of bomblets will explode at various distances and locations in that general direction. Let's say the spread can be between a range of 500-1000m or something, I don't know.
Essentially it's a spray and pray weapon. With a lucky direct hit, it can take out the toughest of ships. With a near-miss, it can have an high concussion force that knocks the target off course, sometimes requiring immediate repair. To get a better idea of the imagery I'm having in my head, think B-17 bombing missions over Europe. Now imagine if something like that were applied to the Vendetta universe. Frigate battles will be far more intense and chaotic with these random weapons of doom. Cool, huh?

I like it :D Would be useful against fighters without being as precise or inevadable as a beam turret (not that I'm against having beam turrets).
