who here, at vendetta, thinks that we should have a buddy system? so that you can turn your chat onto "buddies only" and you can type /buddy to get a list of options:
invite invite a player to be a buddy
decline decline a player to be a buddy
and so on and so forth
so you would also have !: general chat @: mission chat, and #: buddy chat. this would give you a list of buddies. you would click on their name, and it would come up with /msg*buddyname*
You would only be able to hear private chat messages from your buddy to you. A privat chat to you from a non-buddy would not get through.
Who's with me?

The devs were so intrigued by your suggestion that they took the time to implement it within seconds. Your wishes have already been granted! Check it out by typing /buddy in chat for a list of commands. Thank you for using the suggestion forums. We hope that you've enjoyed your visit. Have a nice day!
lol arolte, although i belive they forgot to implement the buddy chat feature
yes, is there now a feature where only buddys can talk to you?
no, but you COULD just /ignore everyone until only your (lack of) buddies are left!
oh, real mature.
no seriously, will they put that function o? otherwise it half renders the rest useless.

maybe you could have a "buddy" channel, where all your buddys can talk to you, and you can talk to all yuor buddys?
Do like Passion did:
Get 2 or 3 of your buddies to create alts.
Make a NEW guild with just yourself and 9 other empty-shell characters.
Invite others into your guild (Your special buddies) and chat with them in guild-chat.
Viola!
Now all you need are the buddies, katcha2!
(Or, you could join a pre-existing guild and have insta-buddies)

Are you wanting to send messages to just one of your buddies, or all of them at once? If you're only wanting to send to one, you can type /msg <first_few_letters>[TAB], and it will autocomplete the name. If you're too lazy to type out /msg, I can make you an alias to bind to a key, so you can just hit a key & type their name & the message. Just me personally, but I like the tab-completion of names much better than clicking on the name of a buddy on a list, the way you described in your first post.
There is a /buddy message command, although it's more useful to send messages to your buddies who are offline, than chatting with them while they are online. And it is only for sending a message to a single player, not all of your buddies.
To chat with all of your buddies at once, making a "buddy" channel by selecting a random channel number & having your buddies join it would probably be the best option that's available now. But it wouldn't be as good as having a say_buddies command that works similar to say_guild & say_group, but with your buddies instead of your guild or group.
I think a /say_buddies command would be a nice addition.

I don't think a buddy channel is really all that important. As others have pointed out you can simply create a temporary group or set a channel for all your buddies to hang out in. Plus with the current population of Vendetta I don't think your buddies will be on most of the time, meaning you'll have nobody to talk to... and well, how is that fun? And what if you meet another cool person that you could add to your buddy list? You can't meet them if you ONLY have your current buddies visible! That's why I think it's important to keep an open communication. You never know who you'll meet. And as always you can /ignore those that you don't like to your heart's content. I've found this to be the best way. But I don't know, if you REALLY want privacy that badly you can work your way around it with the above suggestions for now.

I'm good at what I do.

katcha2, meet genka, our resident troll.
i am kinda like him, just more annoying and stupid
hallo genka. and, who? me?, you are a troll, probably, if you like genka.
not a troll, really, just annoying and stupid, but lets not discuss that here, for fear of a lock by the allmighty and omnicient and godly Forum Moderator!
back on topic: if you want to talk to your buddies, without other people (like me) making annoying and stupid comments at random times, pick a channel, maybe 298374 (i just pressed # keys to get that) you can go from channel 1 all the way up to 4294967295, but somewhere in the middle, and not 100, 201, 202, or any of those other things that might have any significance.

Theres a problem with having a "buddy" channel. To have a buddy channel you and you're buddies would have to have the exact same buddies. Everyone has a different list of buddies so a channel would be quite difficult. As said above, it's easier to randomly pick a channel.
so have a different channel for each person, although that would get confusing quickly, and would take so much time switching from channel to channel
OR, you could pm them and tell them to join channel 666 or something...
why 666? 'S the devil's number...
anyway, my *accosiate* had an idea.
When you press "f" for friend (yay) you get a screen, not unlike that of, say, the cargo screen. there are two collumns, the one on the eft has numbers in, the one on the right player names. When you make a "buddy" s/he will appear as the next number on the list.
lets say I am PLAYER1, and my frien is PLAYER2.
PLAYER2 becomes a "buddy", and i get PLAYER2 on my buddy list as number 1. When i press "f", and bring the system up, i press 1, the corrosponding key to my friend, PLAYER2. I now leave the buddy window, and have the normal vendetta (yay) screen. But, i have chat window, saying:
/msg PLAYER2
and i can write the message. So you simply press the key for your friend, and that is that!
PS sorry i called who? me? a troll
