Defensive Weapons for Traders

Right now we have mines. Maybe swarm if you count them. I would *really* also like to see a small port mine, maybe half the damage and half the ammo of a regular prox mine, so that the maud can have a defensive weapon since it is a trader.

Another nice idea would be chaffe (sp) to explode flares/rockets behind you and maybe mess with a chaser's rader by polka-dotting it in red/green false targets.

Maybe even a rear turret which would just pea-shoot at the chaser, doing maybe 5 damage a pop at minimal drain just to make the chaser dodge.

It would be nice if a trader could arm himself or herself without having to dump cargo and turn and fight to use his or her weapons.

Instead of chaff (which is usually associated with expoding shells, designed to do area damage to missiles/planes, utilized by battleships...mmm...beam cannons and chaff. :D ), we ought to have countermeasures against missiles & rockets. Like I've said before ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10456 ) lots of stuff ought to trigger proximity on these things.

One other thing that could prevent people from spamming/overusing rockets and swarms, etc, would a required "target lock" with missiles, although I think it would be good if missiles could loose their lock if things are kept as they are right now, and even if they aren't, missiles should still be able to loose lock. A defensive auto-turret might be kinda nice, but I think that if we started getting these, lots of ship designs would have to be changed...after all, it makes sense to have these on bombers, if only to make fighters think twice about attacking them.

Well, I'm not trying to "fix" any existing weapons here. I just want some added for traders since all that's really available at the moment are mines and swarms (which really kind of suck for anything but queen-hunting).

Mines are ultra effective for a trader, a tube of conc mines is all you need to get out of any situation, prox are nicer if you can get them, but any explosive (Read, not lightning) mine will put anyone chasing you off.

Yeah, I know. But what about the maud? Only s-ports. And I would like more variety. You can kill just about anything in a dual-n2 rev c, but is that all you ever arm one with? And what if the person turbos at you from an angle (i.e. swings around in a faster ship and gets some sideways momentum, so they can sort of turbo diagonally while facing you for a while)? And Martin.mac.au once got me by flying right ahead of me in an IDF Valk and then turning around and letting me turbo right through his oncomming fire. We poor, helpless, honest, defenseless traders (hehehe) need a little more variety - not only for style but for more enjoyment of when you pirate types come after me :)
