The Wonderful World of Widgets
I was glad to see at christmas time the developers got into the spirit of things by turning the cargo widgets into christmas presents. :)
But this got me thinking about the possibilities of widgets. For one thing, do they all have to look the same? I think it would be nice to chunky crates for ore, mutlticoloured vats for nanodyes, glowing green boxes for phase arrays...
Speaking of which, it would be cool for a container to act differently depending on its contents. I don't mind the idea of simply flying into ore crates to pick them up, but what about volatile chemicals? I have a feeling if you approached them too quickly you'd end up as space debris pretty quickly.
A similar safeguard could be implemented on the ctc crates. That would add another dimension of terror-if you hit the crate too fast, BANG.
Another feature of the Purified Xith crates could be that they slowly release a deadly toxin, which erodes your ship's health until you jettison it or get to the right station.
But enough about me. What do YOU think?

/me thinks he wants to know why, when a shot from any energy weapon (haven't tried with rails or rockets) passes through a cargo widget... it's course is altered at a certain angle. It makes for some amusing stray shots in cargo filled storms at times...

Because it makes perfect sense to mass manufacture different types of boxes. ;)
well we used to have different colored widgets when we were still flying around with weapon widgets. And there used to be different icons on those boxes.
I like differently-colored icons, boxes, etc. That's great. WHY did the icons change to be the boring blue-green crates? Different size crates for different items, different effects, etc.

because guildsoftware changed the backend of the code and it was easier to update only one wigit "box" on a budget and a deadline.

The icons were "rocket powerup", "laser powerup", etc. We don't have those no mo'.
