Screw the balance, Content

Im thinking the devs probably subliminally agree with me, but really, lets all forget this stupid currently unattainable balance. Smack the prom and the ibg/rev c with the nerf stick and then just work on content and immersion only.

The game is currently getting a touch boring, and rebalancing the ships wont really change that for much more than a week or so tops while everyone figures out the new ubercombo. So instead, ignore all balancing suggestions and things of that nature until the game is as exciting in other areas as it is in pvp. Then, and only then, would I suggest even bothering with ship balance.

There is no real way to gauge how coming content will affect the ship balance as it is. So instead of wasting time rebalancing the ships for this point in the game, I say we all bite our tongues and let the devs do something a bit more constructive than spend all day trying to figure out the math for a balance thats toast in a week or two anyways. We have been awfully demanding on them, and as far as I can tell they have done everything they can to be responsive to our desires. Now we need to be responsive to the game as a whole and not just go on and on about a couple of problem ships.

This coming Hive stuff looks pretty cool AND entertaining, a huge leap forward in terms of content. I figure, if we can all manage to stfu about the damn proms and rev cs for a while, the devs will have more time to focus on things like PvE, better mission strings, more immersing enviroments. Look back at the past few months of updates, and besides the cap ships, its pretty much been them trying to figure out a ship balance. Imagine where the game would be if we had all just stfu then.

My suggested method for how to "smack the IBG/Rev. C witht the nerf stick" would be to reduce both thrust & empty mass. Keep it about the same ratio, but make it so weapon & cargo mass has a much larger effect. Proms I don't particularly care how they're dealt with.

But yeah, nerf the current uber-ships a little bit, and then leave balance alone for a while.

While I don't disagree, I will point out that sometimes content will impact balance which is why the devs have to jump back and forth between balance and content. It's also why we can't really expect balance to be perfect and lasting throughout the evolution of the game.

Also, the addition of new ships (while I *really* want to see new/additional ones) are likely to throw balance off a bit. However, I agree with tramshed, getting stuff perfectly balanced can wait. As long as it's more or less even, we'll be fine.

the thing you fail to realize is that balance can be done quicker than new content. Because balance is altering things curently in game it takes less time that desining new content from scratch.

The result is that while new content is in the works, a number of side balance projects can be completed simultaniously.

While i agree that continualy adjusting a couple of ships over and over again is less desiarable that creating new content, some balance has to be done.

I would be in favor of leaving things prety much the same as they are now, while some new content is added and returning to balance tweeks after the new content is available

Additionaly i expect the devs are working mostly on content at the moment as we haven't heard much from them lately.

Harry Seldon... Did you happen to choose that name form "Foundation"? Im only still a kid and i love that book. Also to hell with ballancing. Just have it it so

Serco:Slower, Lotsa Ports, Small cargo hold?
Itani:Faster, Not so many Ports ,Medium cargo hold?
UIT:Medium, Medium, LARGE cargo hold?

Just my idea. But why the frick cant they make an event where the UIT and Itani AI ships are having a battle and the Hive Decides to intervene and destroy the fleets, Seeing as the battle is over an asteroid field with MASSIVE amount of rare metal. Or can we have an arena where peeps can duel and get money and slight increase in the nation thier representing?

All in all, I agree that we need more content before a concerted balancing effort is made, particularly since this game needs more variation in both ship design and stats. We really need ships to behave like they were designed to behave, not the way certain groups ingame want them to behave.

And APV13, yes, Hari Seldon is from Foundation.

I've read some of the wiki, (it's really long, I haven't read the whole thing,) and it looks REALLY promising and interesting. I can live with the proms as they are for this. The part I like the most though, is capturable systems. I've been thinking about that ever since I made my character and found out that the Itani and the Serco were at war. Right now, it's more like pfft, what war. Capturable systems would totally awesomize it.
