Group size increase, or group linking

May 08, 2005 brrbustin link
So this weekend we had our first ever EnB sponsored weekly Queen hunt, and the response was more than we expected... is there any way that the max group size could be increased from 8 to at least 16, or make it possible to link multiple groups together?

I agree, groups are limited just a little bit too small right now.

Yeah Please do. It would make The Deneb Run much easier

Yes, the Itani battle fleet of Capship Battle II would have been even more effective had we all fit into the same group.

The only real problem I see to work around is the group health listing. There is finite HUD space available.

I also request a "/group merge" command as brrbustin suggested.

Agreed..we filled up like 2 full groups. Not sure how many groups there really were, but mine had a full 8, and I've seen another set of screenshots that had another 6 person group, and I expect that there was another.

There really just needs to be a "Raid Group" code set put in, with a UI for editing the group, since they tend to get unweildy quickly at #'s approaching 10+…

Raid Grouping: 16+ players

Consists of:
Raid Leader (squad leader #1)
Squad Leader 2, 3, etc.

1. Raid leaders starts a "Raid Group" // /raidgroup create //
2. Raid leader invites "x" number of squad leaders // /raidgroup squadleader invite "name" //
3. Raid leader and Squad Leaders invite there individual squadron pilots // /squadgroup invite "name" //

Raid leader should have a UI to view total group dynamic, showing each squad leader and who's under their command, as well as info on each of the ships in the raid (ship type/payload). Raid leader should make sure that each squad has equal, or as close to equal, group complements as possible. Including at least one light fighter, bomber and medic.

The entire "Raid Group" should be able to share a "Raid Speak" or all set there default channel to a specific "#" before the raid begins.

actually all we really need is a slightly better chat system, one where we can send to different channels without having to join them first, and maybe a few more chat tabs at the top so we can customize what chat gets displayed where.

if /msg #98745 "blah" sent your text to channel 98745 you could create a quick and dirty alias/bind using the /prompt command.
(just as a mental exercise the alias/bind would look something like this:
/alias msgchan98745 "prompt '/msg #98745 ' "
/bind <key> msgchan98745
)

Hmm while we are at it we need to be able to make channels closed/invite only.

the reason I suggested it the way I did is it's worked before like that for other games where there is a LOT of high end, raid material to be played. But your right a simple channel adjustment could solve the "chat" issue of the problem, though you did not address the "groups larger then 8" issue. Which was more of what I was trying to cover.

the way the UIT organized themselves during their winning capship battle, was thus:

-one UPK Zelor defense group

-one IDV Sola assault group

-one SMV Protaris assault group
....(except we only had one assault, and I forgot who they targeted)

**everybody in all three groups joined a private channel for fleet-wide comms

This seemed to work out pretty well, too... conventional military tactics break down large forces into small nuclear units as well, no?

just having groups of groups could work too.

You have the command group of squad leaders, and then the squads themselves. The squad leaders could be heard by both commander and their squad, but not the other squad leaders, the Commander could only hear and speak to the squad leaders, and the players in the squads could only hear their squad leaders, or (via a special command) a command from the commander.

@Shape
That's kind of how I ment it, The raid leader or "commander" could give orders across the whole raid force, specifically towards the Squad leaders, who would then in turn direct there squadron. Having it set up in a raid format is better then just normal groups is that the raid leader (commander) would be able to see which squads are taking heavier damage and could coordinate a strike better, by giving the right squad leader instructions. Being able to see everyones life is very important in a large scale battle. Also, you don't want vital information out there on some random channel that anyone could just stumble onto. By making it like group chat it becomes specific to those who have actually been accepted into the raid force.

Additionally, it would be could if something like this were implemented, that there be a way to "rate" your "raid leader" like your mentors, so that if you received say 5, 20, 40 raid leadership points that you gained a badge as being a good commander and could potentially give you a better "x-item".
