color coded system-sector HUD-display
okie. at the bottom of the screen where your distance meter is, there is a display that shows what system and sector you are in. can we get those color coded to match the system? so for instance in grey space it would be grey. in serco space it would be red. in itani space it would be blue and in uit space it could be pink. (erm. i meant yellow.. just seeing if your still paying attention). would be really handy to know what space im in at a quick glance. that way i know when i hit borders.
Good Idea!
Particularly for those of us that actually log out occaisionlly (sp) and have lives for days at a time in the organic world before coming back to VO. We might not immediately remember where we left off.

Make the UIT one pink. They're all pansies anyway.
Yeah, let's do the Red-Blue-Yellow thing...but also, let's color code the distance meter to range from red (0 meters from large object) to slowly transition to green (3000 m) as you exit a system so you can tell at a glance how far you have to go.

What if I'm red-green colorblind?
Then make it customizable. It shouldn't be that hard to do... ¬_¬

It would be tough if it isn't how the devs planned the HUD in the first place. They'd have to redesign pretty much everything.
Personally, I'd like to see all elements of the HUD color customizable, if to fit role-playing and personal preference. I think a HUD that ranged from Red to Yellow colors would really cool... and kinda Klingony, but it gives a real combat-like feel for me. But red isn't for everyone.

A rather comprehensive post, that I would argue that the HUD would at some point have to support, even if not the whole thing. However, there is much to do...

is there some reason why you can't use the map to see where borders are? it only takes one key to activate.
As for the whole distance meter changing color to show distance, it is prety easy to read now, i don't see why you could posably need to make it any easier, and i don't see color coding it making it any easier

Harry: I'm not posting there because I largely don't agree with your ideas. All I was saying was that I want control over the color of my HUD.
CrippledPidgeon: Yes, I understand this, but *that* post had gone ignored for 5 days, and I think that many gameplay features in Freespace 1 & 2 are sadly lacking here, to VO's detriment.
