new type of ship
what about adding a ship that was simaler to a cap ship but only for small groups of people.
Already in the works.
Sayeth Incarnate:
"...I've also set Waylon to working on a new ship, which currently has no ETA and is in the very-early concept development stages, but will probably be larger than any current ships, but smaller than a real "capital" class. This will fit with various PvE, Guild and Epic Mission objectives which I'm shooting for."
This was from earlier this year.

Wasn't that refering to the Bohemoth?
nope, that was not the behemoth
heck no
[EDIT] you beat me to it Spellcast :D

The only problem that I see with the dev statement is that it will be in "conjunction with" pve/guild/epic missions, and not as a player controlable/purchasable ship. We need to have big commercial liners that are great for traders that can pay for a small fleet of escorts, with the ability to haul 1000's of cu's at a time, or 100's anyway. As well as military versions that can be frigates for the Heavy Assault Cruisers, large gun boats that can hold off the light fighter attacks on the big ships. Also, and this is not new from me, but a similarly sized vessel with lots of mining ports for large scale mining operations. 4-6 large ports dedicated to mining equipment, so as to have no combat potential.
I am still very excited to know that there IS still a model out there that is in the works as any content is good at this point, bad or not.

From the most recent In-Progress:
"Waylon is working on some user-controllable capital ships... The user-pilotable cap ship thing is exciting, but I don't want anyone to get too out of hand, we have a bit of development and tweaking to do before we'll be able to actually put these into the game as purchasable craft (at least a month). We'll likely have the art well before we actually have all the "game" end stuff ready. But you'll at least see the ships appearing as NPC vessels in the meantime."

No offense FM but that's not what I was talking about. And if they are ANYTHING like they are now, they are just a money sink and not worth the cr's you paid them for. UNLESS, you get to select what weapon goes in each turret AND you have full control over ALL turrets, because there just is not a large enough population on the server to garantee that a player controled H.A.C. will be able to be fully manned and as they are now even with gunners they are just sitting ducks. Plus, there are NO H.A.C. to H.A.C guns on them.
What I was referring to would be half the size of the current H.A.C. and would… well… read what I wrote again!!

I did. If you read the two items I referenced, you will see that I have responded directly to your posts.
You stated that the new ships will not be player controlled or purchased. I addressed that. Also you mentioned the need for smaller HAC (by which I took to mean cap ships or Heavy Attack Cruisers), and that was addressed by the first post.
Do these fully meet each requirement you listed? Hard to tell, given the vague info published. I was merely informing you that things similar to what you are discussing are being worked on. I thought you'd be pleased...or something.

You did not directly respond to my post, you merely quoted a devs vague post in the "In-Progress", and, I'll be "pleased" when we actually have something to game with, right now it's just another Soon™ from the devs. And loosing a man, even though his part is done doesn't help the work load, it only hinders it so I don't expect it ANY time Soon™.
Well considering that Incarnate stated that Waylon left a bunch of models for them when he left, I'd guess that they're just working on implementation of them at this point.
Glancing over at my IRC window, looks like there might be some sort of official statement, but we'll see what happens....
uh oh... he's talking himself out of it...
Hmm... I wonder what's going to happen...

Why not make a MAC which is a Magnetic Accelerator Cannon.

You'll know what i'm talkining about.

On third thought... use that handy little button labeled "edit". No need for double posts.
On fourth thought, use that handy little button labeled delete to eliminate the double posts after they happen.
On fifth thought, roguelaser misspelled thought.
On sixth thought, what Cpt. Overkill suggests is essentially a large Gauss/Coil Gun with the change that it shoots a "molten projectile" rather than a solid one. The molten part sounds cool, but I seriously doubt that if you've accelerated a projectile to "near lightspeed," there will be any difference in damage between a solid projectile and a molten one. If anything, I think that a molten projectile would do less damage than a solid one because liquids are less dense than solids, so if the shot had to travel several light seconds or light minutes, it would shrink from cooling, ending up smaller than a shot that started solid.

"For those of you who are now saying "Oh No! They're going from four developers down to three! They're DOOMED!", relax. None of us are very concerned about this change, or any negative impacts it may have on our company. We do not anticipate an impact on overall productivity. Waylon left us with a fair amount of new art content, which we'll be integrating over the next few months. We're also in discussions with a few people over possible positions here at Guild Software. If anything, we hope to grow the company by perhaps two to three more employees by the end of the year."
