Newer, better Ready Room
We have general chat on tab 1 (!). We have mission chat on tab 2 (@). Now it's time to move the ready room into tab 3 (#), for in-turret access. C'mon devs. Ya know you want to!
what'd be cool is to be able to put various chats in custom tabs.
So maybe General chat on tab 1, Mission chat on tab 2 are the defaults. When docked with a station, the Bar appears as tab 3, and when docked with a capital ship, the Ready Room appears as tab 3 instead. And the player has tabs 4 and 5 for choosing what chats go on it. So maybe they can assign channels 201 and 202 for tab 4 and guild chat for tab 5. Or maybe group chat on 4 and Channel 1 on 5. Things like that.
Maybe a command structure like this:
/chattab <variable> [channel, guild, group, sector]
and if you set a chat tab for channel, then within that tab you can use /join to add channels to it.

That's a good idea CP. But I'm trying to make a suggestion that they can impliment without spending any significant time on it.
ah
I would LOVE to be able to direct what messages went there, even if at the start (as a quick and dirty implementation) you could just have a file with a list of strings to watch for and what tab to send them to (regex would be way nicer but hey, ill take what I can get)
I'd like a clear view of the action from the ready room. You can kinda see if you hit the "Help" button, but I'd like to see a good view and maybe a map of the ship with live and dead turrets on it.
Yes! What FM said. And clicking on a "live" turret places you inside it.
Me too. Nothings more frustrating then seeing an incoming bomber and picking the wrong turret from the list!
To build on that:
What if we had a view out, and superimposed upon that would be a large radar display with a map of the ship superimposed on it. On that map would be all the turrets, which would indicate whether they were vacant/occupied/usable/destroyed. A gunner in the Ready Room could see the action, see where an attacker was on the radar, and choose an appropriate turret. The turret selection would still be imperfect because it would be hard to tell precisely which turret faces the target, but it would be an improvement.

Yeah, but I had a nice simple idea, which would make in-ship comm USEFUL while in-ship. Yours is rather different.
Sorry, I got excited by the possibilities.
Yes, it would be cool to have an in-ship channel and tab.

Why are you SORRY? That's the PURPOSE of these Suggestions, to think WAY beyond the existing borders of the game, not to constrain your creative thinking to a series of small evolutionary "tweaks." Think revolutionary!
#? aww... then I'd have to ditch some of my group binds =(
[bump because somebody reminded me of it and we still don't have an easy to chat with shipmates]
There's already an AI in place, for turrets that tracks ships. It'd be handy if those turrets that had an angle on enemy targets within that range were outlined in a red box, or something.
I miss my mission chat....
