Killing Enemies in Nation NFZ Areas Shouldn't Lower Faction Standing
Yesterday, I had a very bad first-time experience in trying to dock with the Itani capital ship. IMHO, it could have been avoided had killing an enemy in an NFZ Zone in my nation space not lowered my faction standing.
I had just missed the initial ten-minute launch window, and, not knowing the location of the docking port, had had a very difficult time in trying to dock with the moving Itani capital ship.
During the chase, the capital ship reached the Jallik system. There, I spotted an enemy Serco Ragnarok MkIII that seemed to be approaching the Itani capital ship. I quickly destroyed it with my Valkyrie Rune, not noticing that I was in an NFZ.
My Itani faction standing suddenly dropped from +990 to +91. It was still positive, so I continued to try docking with the Itani capital ship.
Eventually, after losing both the Valk and an IBG Centurion in failed docking crashes with the Itani capital ship, I tried docking in a Centurion MkII with the now-stationary vessel in Sedina B-8.
However, when I finally reached the docking bay, the message "You are not allowed to dock with this vessel." appeared. While trying to dock, I got killed for the third time, this time by a Serco ship that attacked the docking bay.
Later, I discovered that the reason that I hadn't been allowed to dock was that a previously unannounced faction standing of +200 had been a docking requirement. This point hadn't been posted in the update announcement, and nothing had been posted about it in the News.
IMHO, either this faction standing requirement should be lowered to +0, or players should not lose faction standing for shooting enemy ships in NFZ zones in their own nation space. They should still be hunted by Aerna Seekers and Station Bots, but their faction standing should not be affected.
Think about this: If you were a soldier in wartime and you killed an enemy soldier just outside your own HQ in a no-fire zone, you should be arrested and perhaps locked up, but not distrusted. In the Square Soft RPG for the Super Famicom ("Super Nintendo" in the US) Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in the US), Kefka was locked up by his Emperor during the truce, but he was immediately freed after the truce ended. His faction standing was never lowered for his merciless conduct against his enemies, even though he was appropriately punished.
IMHO, players shooting enemies in NFZ areas in their own nation space should be immediately attacked, but their faction standing should not decrease. Lowering faction standing for killing an enemy in your own nation space in wartime doesn't make sense.

If you define "enemy" as someone who has bad standing, then the only faction standing penalty for NFZ violation is temporary. In the long run, you'll actually gain standing.

By "enemy," I meant "a player of the opposing faction." In my case, since I was Itani, the "enemy" in question was a Serco player.
My faction standing loss was actually permanent. Just now, after one day, I managed to get it back up to +993, a net +3 gain (but that is besides the point). The only reason that I gained standing was that I ran several ridiculously long bulk procurement trading guild missions.

Yeah, the faction standing system is one of the things I'd like to see improved. Right now, it's not much harder for a Serco to get good Itani standing than it is for a Serco to get good UIT or Orion standing - they just start off with a little bit further to go. I think it should be significantly more difficult - not impossible, but much more difficult. And once a Serco has gotten good Itani standing, it should be more precarious than an Itani with good standing - if the Serco starts abusing their good standing by attacking in Itani space, they should lose their good standing fast.
I could go on about some ways to change the faction standing system that I think would be good, but I've mentioned them before, and I'm tired right now & want to go to bed. So g'night.
