I started it, and it prompted me to change my resolution, but I declined, so it starts, and the ship is spinning around, ect. But I couldn't do anything!!!! It just froze my BRAND NEW MACBOOK PRO!!! Which caused me to shut it down by holding the button (WHICH I HATE) for the first time!!!! I just thought I should put it out there, that now my dashboard is loading slower and I am scanning for defective blocks. Honestly, I thought it would be good if it was listed on the apple website!!! No, it asked you if you wanted to run VO at your native LCD resolution, to which you should have answered yes.

*but I declined, so it starts, and the ship is spinning around, ect. But I couldn't do anything!!!!*

I have no idea what could cause this. Maybe answering *yes* to the above question would work?

*Honestly, I thought it would be good if it was listed on the apple website!!! DX<*

Something crashed on you ONCE and you wont touch it again? You whine like a Windows user kid, STFU fanboi, dont let the door hit you where the good lord slit you.

If ship was spinning then it was not a freeze, did you try alt-tabbing or alt-ctrl-del equivalent or whatever you mac people have?

It's a troll, no one who knows what a bad block is and how to find one would start looking for them after power cycling. Stop feeding it.

I dunno tech tool said it was doing a scan for like, "bad blocks" or something, and no this is a brand new mac, it said to CHANGE MY RESOLUTION, because it was SET TO LOW, and I replied no, and yes it was frozen, my trackpad my keyboard, and my mouse, wouldnt work, and neither would ctrl alt del!!!!

*getting his (-1, troll) stamp ready*

Look, most computers will do a hard disk scan automatically after a little while. How about you try restarting the game but run the game at its native resolution instead.

obvious troll

Edit: On the off chance that it's not actually a troll,
ctl-alt-delete does not in fact do anything in mac os X, the keys you want to press if you think you need to kill some process are command-alt-esc. The alt-tab counterpart maq's referring to is command-tab.
As far as scanning for bad blocks, your computer decided it was a good time to look for broken bits of your hard-drive. Why it's decided this is something it needs to do is a mystery to me, as well as what a "tech tool" is.

Edit 2: Also, having an adult help you when you're troubleshooting is generally a good idea.

tech tool is a program from the apple care disc, I ran the program to see if vendetta messed up my computer, and I really dont want to run vendetta again, because now, half of the programs that ran perfect before, are now crashing...I dont know if this is just a a chance, or if its the fault of vendetta, but I can say 100% that it did indeed mess up my computer, and I made this thread to say, that it in fact did mess it up, and could possibly mess up others...I dont care if you give me your "(-1, troll) stamp", I dont plan on being on this site, or being on my account, past what Im doing right now, and to see more people reply and call me a troll...I will most likely even delete this account, but I wanted to state that this program did infact cause an error on my computer...I have notified apple as well...

Because everyone knows that a brand new machine works perfectly right out of the box and never has problems....right?

There are a couple hundred people running VO on macs/PC without a problem. I would venture to say that the odds are it is something other than VO causing your problem. Stop with the blame game and troubleshoot your problem.

Listen, Im just saying that Ive had this for about a month, I install this program, and it crashes when I use it, WHAT THE HECK ELSE COULD IT BE!? Ive uninstalled it and its FINE NOW!? Gee, yeah it sure is my computer thanks for your help...

Ok, that's just really strange. You're the first person that has reported this problem. If you would like to help us find the problem, that would be great. The first question is which new Macbook Pro are you using?

ryuuzaki52, raybondo is a developer (hence his red name), and is there to help you.

If, as genka theorised, you are not a troll but are indeed a child, then my apologies, but your posts do demonstrate a complete lack of understanding about computers, which combined with the tone of your posts is easy to mistake for deliberate trolling.

VO has a nice command for this situations: esc key.
It brings up "options tab" and you can either find a problem and fix it or log out.
VO does not install any kext into core OSX so wide system freeze caused by VO is highly unlikely.

All Mac users know a shortcut to force quit unresponsive application: Command + Option + escape.
Only situation when hard reset is the only option, is when you get a kernel panic.

After a hard reset it is mandatory to repair permissions and execute maintenance scripts in order to fix any possible problems hard reset can cause. (Leopard Cache Cleaner does the work just fine).
So, if you are experiencing OSX problems after a hard reset, in all likelihood you caused them yourself.

macbook pro 13" is what Im useing, and when I installed this I saw a small white cursor to use in the corner of your game, but it wouldnt move, and the esc key did nothing, and Im new to mac so I didnt know the exact "ctrl+alt+del" combination, but I knew it was like, command esc and delete so I just pressed around, and finally figured out the combination, but I actually had to hold my button down for like, 5 seconds. oh, and my macbook pro is an os x leopard or something....like I said, Im new to macs!...and yeah I was pretty angry with the program causing that to happen (if it was indeed it) so I did have a tone in my posts, but people calling me a troll didnt help -_-....oh, and I had also just installed a billiards program that apple recomended aswell, but you had to buy it to play the "better" version, and I uninstalled it.....

ryuuzaki52, there is no way that all your other applications would be running slower due to a one-time crash. A mac will NOT fall apart on you just because it crashes (even multiple times). Back on the pre-unibody macbook pro's the NVIDEA graphics card had issues that would cause me to hard shut down my computer multiple times a week, but aside from the graphics locks (which were caused by heavy use of the graphics card), all my other apps ran fine. Point is, you're doing no permanent damage to the computer, so don't fret.

Also, apple isn't "recommending" an app just because it is on the site. Let's help the developers solve this problem by telling them exactly what happened etc, and also if you can reproduce the error. This is a "bugs" forum, where people go to get bugs solved. Let's try to refrain from the screaming and yelling and solve this like adults.

A few tips (the command key == the apple key):
1) Command-option-esc will allow you to force quit an application, instead of hard-shutting down your computer (aka when you hold the power button down for 5 seconds).
2) If the graphics are still moving around on your computer, chances are your computer is NOT frozen. Try quitting (command-q) or force quitting (see above) before attempting a hard shutdown. If I have to hard shutdown, it's normally because my computer has frozen up completely (aka all the graphics have stopped moving).

@bojan: there are a couple instances where you have to hard-shutdown, normally related to graphics cards/drivers etc... but the majority of the time you are right. I have had VO take down my computer with a graphics issue (it was my computer's fault, not VO's... trust me I could reproduce the issue in a host of other apps), but it doesn't sound at ALL like what ryuuzaki52 is describing.

well see I tried the esc, and quit program method but nothing in my keyboard would work, and I couldnt even type in the program...and guess what? when I pressed the power button, you know how it pops up the menu asking if you really want to shut down, and has a timer for its auto shut down? yeah, never came...not even on the 5th try!!!

Definitely sounds like a hard-lock.

Do you have the latest Mac OS X updates?
Aug 14, 2009 ryuuzaki52 link
yep I had just updated it...wait...I updated it, THAT NIGHT! =O was that it?
