I went into 16 and lost all my sound. And it didn't come back after leaving the sector.
Other players online said that they had similar situations.
I'm personally running OS X (10.2.6)

Happened to me too. All vendetta sound stopped, and other aplications became very grainy. I did it when no other programs were running, and still every time I enter s16 the sound dies.

same here. OS 10.2.6 I get reports from otehr people on otehr OSes that this is happening to tthem

I tried it on our mac and was able to reproduce it. It sounds as though it outputs a continuous stream of +MAXINT or -MAXINT samples, so you get clicks and pops, and if you're mixing sound with other applications you'll get one half of the amplitude spectrum clipped off. So probably some floating point variable somewhere is freaking out and going to infinity, which propagates throughout the sound code. Haven't fully diagnosed this yet.
This same bug also occurs in sectors 17 and 18.
I don't know if this may help or not, but by using the information above, we can deduce that...
1) Only the newest hidden sectors have this problem. Either somebody screwed up the sector code during the update or something went bad when they were compiled.
2) These sectors are also the only ones with the Furies in them. It may have something to do with their presence that may be corrupting the sound. Maybe not.
And uhhh... on the topic of Furies, I'm willing to pay a1k0n 1 million credits to place purchaseable Furies in sectors 17 and 18. I mean c'mon, you gotta put more goodies for having the patience and guts for traveling through these extremely hostile regions.
=)
Sorry, I just had to toss that in to bug ya.

Just came to me... perhaps the devs don't want the Furies wandering all over known (and unknown) space.
So how about some ships that can't jump? Each nation could have a special ship only purchasable in the two nation sectors (like the specials), but it can't warp.
Perhaps you could buy a Fury for cheap in those sectors, and in 17 and 18. The home sector Furies could be "rebuilt alien vessels" and the reason they can't jump from the home sectors is because the aliens power their ships centrally (via a station or the frigate), and modifying the ship to generate energy locally makes it incapable of warping. The can't jump from 17 and 18 because they require those particular station to recharge.
Botting would be cool, and flag defense would be much more interesting.
To get back to the topic, I saw two WinXP users complain about sound loss as well last night in those sectors - Janelle and someone else. They said it requires a restart of the game.
In very busy sectors (could be any sector) or very heavy, many player, close in firfights I've lost sound on many occasions. It comes back a random number of seconds later. This has happened rarely, but on several occasions, since mid 3.1.

That's inexplicable at this time.

Just one last note on this. It was not happening wednessday night/ early thursday morning, EDT.
Yeah. At first I had sound in all of the new sectors, but I went into 17 today and lost sound. Sound didn't come back until I restarted Vendetta.

This has happened the last two times I entered s17. I must go to another sector and restart Vendetta for it to come back. I used to be able to go to s17 no problem.

Bots are shooting out to NaN-land (Not a Number). Dunno why. I restarted 16 and 17, so that should be fixed now. You lose sound because it can't tell loud to make the engine sounds -- how far away is 0 divided by 0 from your position? That NaN propagates through the sound stuff until it's totally hosed. It also propagates through the physics engine on the sector server, totally hosing the octree, which is why you couldn't pick up powerups. I'm taking actions to prevent NaNs from being generated in the future.

Glad to know the devs are perfectly sane... :P

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person to experiance the sound or lack there of problem. All my testing seems to indicate this to be a problem when going to or from the newest sectors 16-17-18. If you log out and restart the problem is gone till you enters those sectors again.
Just my 2¢ worth :-)

It has happened to me quite a few times, now no matter where i am i have no sound at all, even if i restart :(
For this first time this happened in sector 16 to me. I've not been there since, so I can't say if it repeats. (I don't frequent 16.) I do, however, frequent 18 and it has never happened to me there (only 16-17).
