Oh, just another event...

Here's an idea I've had this morning and which I worked out this afternoon. I'm pretty sure I will actually be hosting this event - given there's a fair amount of interest and participation. On first look it sounds quite complicated, but I can assure you it's really quite simple, quick and dirty. I present you the...

==Vendetta Online Quickfire Quiz==

The VOQQ is a team action quiz game. Skill and knowledge in various fields determine who will win this quite spectacular spectacle!

How does it work?
A maximum of 5 teams compete to win the trophy. For the event to take place, there must be at least 3 teams taking part.
A team consists of max. 3 players each. Single player teams are allowed.
If more than 5 teams apply for the game, each team will have to pass a qualification round - the five best teams get to participate.

The game consists of three rounds and a final.
All the participants gather in a specified sector flying free EC class ships with a free choice of equipment.
In the First Round ("Kill the Smartass") there are a total of 300 points to be earned. There are three questions from random topics asked. The first participant to deliver the correct answer to a question wins 50 points for his team and becomes the "rabbit": All the other teams may now attempt to shoot and kill him while his teammates can try to protect him. The pilot who kills the rabbit becomes the new rabbit. The player that happens to be the rabbit after a certain amount of time (randomly generated between 7 and 25 seconds) gets another 50 points.

For the Secound Round ("Pub Quiz Brawl") each team has to appoint a team captain. All other pilots are "strikers" - we use busses instead of buzzers. For the 20 question that will now follow, only answers given by the team captains are accepted. The first team captain to give the correct answer gets the points. The strikers may attempt to blow up the other team captains while protecting their own. The questions are asked and have to be answered via sector chat - but killed contestants may at any time re-enter the sector (in a bus, of course).
There is a total of 500 points to be earned in this round.

Next up is the Surprise Bonus Round, wherein the strikers compete for ca. 100¹ bonus points. It will change every time (hence the 'surprise') but it will every time consist of a simple and quick competition of which the winner will be asked one question that is worth 100 points. This might help a team to enter the...

Grand Final

in which the two teams with the most points compete for the victory. Each team will get 7 questions worth 50 points. Any team member may answer the question within a time limit². If the first answer given is the correct one, the team gets the full 50 points. If it's only the secound or third one that is correct, the team earns 25 points. If the team fails to give the correct answer, the opposing team gets a shot at answering and can earn 20 points with an immediate and correct answer.

What can I win?
In the first VOQQ, the winning team will receive a SuperlightKit each and some cash (I'm hoping I might receive some donations). The secound finalists will also receive a special treat³.

NOTES

¹ I might adjust that quite spontaneously, I guess you need some experience to get point counts to be fair.
² I was thinking something between 5 and 10 seconds, mainly to (a) keep the action and (b) discourage googling
³ I was thinking something along the lines of LENBs or Widowmakers.... or some cash...

I'm currently writing a plugin to help administer this little game and collecting questions for an acceptable question pool.
Another thought that crossed my mind is... since this is not nation war and since it's not really a roleplay-thingie but rather just some fun for the hell of it... Maybe... yeah, maybe teams that consist of more than one player should be forced to have players out of more than just one guild... kind of mixing things up a bit... call me socialist... just a thought.

Currently the biggest issue is when to make this happen.

I'd be quite happy about some feedback, what do you think, would you consider participating...

Is that you all just can't be bothered to read the long text or are you just hesitating to break to me that it sucks? Some form of feedback would be very welcome :)

This sounds like fun, and honestly it would be nice to see any type of event under the "Coming Events" plot on the main page.

It's a lot of work to design^ this type of thing; the "Quiz" part sounds like it would be hard to pull off fairly*, but my feeling is if you build it they will come.

*without bias toward certain subjects

^my one experience hosting an event was in alpha: a scav hunt
