Vendetta Opening Scene

Alright, so I know nobody reads the community projects thread, thats why I'm posting this early. Once I get some free time, around October 7th (possibly later depending on what kind of quality captures I am able to get on my laptop), I'm going to attempt to make a video that would play almost like an opening scene to vendetta. ie) it sets the story, shows p.o.v. from all three sides during the action, may include some voice overs (let me know if you have a mic and would like to lend your voice to me), and above all makes you want to play! I've got some pretty cool music picked out as well. Anyone who is interested leave your name here and I will contact you after October 7th when I have some time to spend on this.

I want to put some real effort into this, make it something really cool that will stick around for a while. Therefor it might take a bit of time, but if we do it right it could turn out really cool.

Go play Homeworld (1). Listen to the pilot voices, particularly the way they're talking during the cutscene of the interrogation of the Taiidan pilot. Aim for that effect.

If I'm around, count me in. The only issue is I may skip around a bit due to ping.

I'll lend any of my lame video-producer/designer/piloting/voice talents to this project.

I found a kickass classsical theme, Ghost, I'll send it to you. It's only about 2 minutes, tho. I've had it sitting in iMovie for about a month without any video to go along with it. Reposting your video to the server inspired me to get some "scenery" footage last night. (MAN I can't get over how cool that side view of the capship warping in is... It totally ROCKS!)

Since the music is the hardest thing to come by, I'll put that in first and then think of something that would "fit" that piece. I've got a loose script hammered out for it, it's more of a B-8 VPR-Pirate-Behemoth thing, tho. Not a 3-nation "proper" Vendetta movie. I was thinking of asking the good folks at [VPR] and [SCAR] to do some of it last weekend but then this whole Smittens thing f'ed that up.

That being said, I'll wait and participate in Ghost's movie first. Just let me know what the heck you want me to do.

I've had an idea kicking around my head for a while of something similar, Leber, again with a great piece of music to go with it. Many problems though.

* I don't have a machine capable of filming at any decent level of quality (tried once, frames were dropping everywhere)
* It would work best with a player controlled capital ship (The trident or TPG mini-frig), though the required scenes could probably be faked with one of the normal HACs.
* Black vultures and centaurs would make great looking pirate vessels, maybe the devs can help out here?

We should get a bunch of people together to hash something out and make it happen.

The theme I was thinking of using, as promised:

Kinda cliche, but not too bad. If I ever actually finish it and post it, I'll pop for the licensing fee.

Leber, that is a pretty damn cool piece of music. I kindof already set up a storyboard though if you want to have a look at it.

Maybe we could make another, or if you like you could keep that piece for yourself and you could make your video with it.

I'd love to participate in your video project, Ghost. Just let me know when and where.

K, check back to this thread for updates. I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to film yet though. I'll post a script when I have it done and we can at least get started on the voice overs.

Update on Opening Scene Project:

I've tested the video capture quality on my laptop and it's just not good enough for what I want this to be. So I've made the decision to delay filming until I can get back on my comp at home. For those interested in helping film, I'll have around four weeks free near the middle/end of december and I'll probably be trying to get most of the shots done at that time.

However, there is work that can be done in the present.

I'm about halway done with the script. It's not complicated, just some basic pilot chatter to add another element to the video. Once it is completed, I will need four people to provide voices for the pilots. This is comming soon and will be posted here when I've finished it. See audition thread for more info on this.

As for the video, I need five volunteers to act in the film. Two of these people must have access to either the valk or the prom. The rest must have access to at least one variant of all the regular ships. All actors must be available to film in december. Pilots of exceptional PvP skill are preferred as their fights make for better action shots.

Update: For the actual acting that will take place in the future, I currently have five volunteers. Need two more!

Note: you do not have to do voice work to be in the film. You just have to be able to follow directions. Voice work from the people who auditioned for the voice overs will be looped on top of the battle.
