censorship is ghey ;)

with no censorship people quickly find out who the morons are that use morally wrong language (i.e. the Eric Cartman's of this world), and so can ignore them. With censorship they instead find ways around any safeguards, go underground, find new ways to try and get their message across.

Its an interesting debate though, should someone believe something but be forced by censorship not to say it, or say it and be convinced not to believe?

I'm firmly of the opinion that you have a right to say and or do anything you want as long as it does no harm, either physically or otherwise to another person or prevents another person from doing/saying things that they want.

If i want to stand in times square and scream obscenities at the top of my lungs(not that i would), as long as i'm not screaming them at someone, there shouldnt be a problem with that. people can just ignore me if they dont like the words.

However; Guildsoftware has a very specific no personal attacks policy, both in the game and on the forums. Everyone is paying for the game (or might be if they are still in the 8 hour tiral), and no-one is likely to pay to be the butt of jokes or the target of insults; Therefore as a buisness practice, applying moderate censorship makes a lot of, well, cense. That's pretty much the policy whithin Vendetta. The filter and /ignore are there for the use of players who don't want to listen to listen to generalized cursing. The guides are there to see to it that players are protected from verbal abuse directed at them.

"they call each other queers, therefor it is ok for me to call them queers."

Assuming you're white, go up to a random 6-foot-4 black dude and say "wussup ma nigger". See what happens, its fun.

just wanted to tell everyone that someone was making a joke on 100 about beating a woman with a hammer and stuffing her in a garbage bag. hilarious. gee i wonder why there arent more women gamers?

then there was the wonderful experience of listening to a bunch of white upper middle class gamers talk about how it should be ok to say 'negro' because some people are 'too sensitive' about words.

i am sure many people also get a kick out of hearing epithets like 'pussy' , 'queer', 'gay', and 'bitch' used 50 times a day. that is just the height of online fun.

I think my previous post pretty much covers this. There are more guides on these days. I'm usually on late at night and crack down on this immediately.

There are always people who think it's okay to use (insert slur here) because they belong to (insert race, creed, color, or preference here) or use them with someone they know who is (insert affiliation), etc.. While that may be so for that person in their local area, Vendetta is used by people all over the world. The social ramifications of using a slur are just too complex to navigate safely, so I would suggest that people avoid them in public.
