Just what makes 1152 X 870 an odd screen size? It works just fine for me.

It's odd because it's in-between. Most monitors that can handle it could easily handle 1280x960 (for the 4:3'ers amongst you) or 1280x1024 (for everybody else).

Maybe he likes the lower DPI? I dunno...

Mmm, 200 gig hard drive... That ought to be enough for a fair amount of recording time. :P

I was mainly looking for speed. I'm getting another one next week and RAID-ing it.

If you're looking for speed, why not just buy an Opteron, rob a bank, buy 256GB of RAM and set up a very big ramdrive? I mean, Dell sells a 32GB of RAM server. So how hard could 256GB be?

Opteron is just RAW power, Id get an FX-53. And what would so much RAM do?

lol, watch, that rig is only 10% faster than an FX-53 setup with 4GB of RAM... and you spent 100x more.

I'd get 2 Opteron's rather than a single FX-53, having processes spread across more than one CPU is nice (especially for compiling) ... Then again, I already have 4 machines as a "compiling farm" running "distcc" ;-)

Besides, don't fx's have their memory locked? I mean, opterons have a stated max memory limit of 4TB. I believe FX's have a limit of 32GB or something. I dunno. Maybe I'm confused. And the RAM was because he said he wanted a new harddrive for speed. So you can't get much faster than replacing your whole harddrive with RAM.

Use both of them as heavily loaded database servers. It's a hell of a lot more than a 10% difference, especially with the extra RAM.
