NASA--Mysterious Object Press Release Monday

Mar 14, 2004 Arolte link
I mentioned this in game so I thought I'd post a link to it for everyone who is still interested. Apparently NASA has discovered a mysterious object in our solar system and they'll hold off on releasing any info and images until Monday at a press release. Of course NASA has been known to do these sort of publicity stunts to grab the public's attention, only to reveal some boring and obvious news... but hey, you never know this may be new.

I'm not sure I've ever seen 'em describe anything as being a "mysterious object" in the past. They usually come out and say whether it's a planet or celestial body. Not this time. Can it be UFOs? Can it be a meteor headed towards Earth? Or has another "Planet X" been discovered beyond Pluto? Discuss!

I heard about this one I beleive. It's another planetoid beyond Pluto. Congradulations, kids, we now have 11 planets in the Solar System. 9 real ones and those 2 things beyond Pluto and we, well we have no idea what they are exactly. Pretty good thing the Vikings were built so well, I beleive it was a Viking that detected it as it was entering Deep Space.

Of course I maybe wrong...

Pretty neat though, Viking's have less power now than a blowdryer yet they keep talking to us from Deep Space...

I don't know. I say we should get a rag with swarmers stationed out there, just to be safe.

Neat. I was hoping it would be like a flying saucer or some type of alien relic. Oh well. Guess we'll get to see images of it tomorrow then. Of course we can't expect anything more than a white or lightish blue blob on a fuzzy starscape. But hardcore astronomers dig this stuff like porn.

Gee...the "artist's conception" looks awfully familiar! Is NASA sure this object is NOT in sector 10??!!

Actually pyro, we only still have 9 planets. And if this gets classified as a planet, THEN we have 10. What was thought to be #10 as I recall is too small to be considered a planet.

I don't think they've come to a consensus yet concerning where to draw the line between planets and planetoids. Some feel that if something's own gravity causes it to take the shape of a sphere it qualifies as a planet.
