I was just demonstrating the silliness of using "expression" instead of "number" in the question.

hmm...This is interesting - I had this EXACT problem on my test in Calculus. It was a bonus question. :-D. And it was phrased the same way:

"What two numbers added together equal ten, and multiplied together equal 130"

:) got 1/2 credit b/c i got to using imaginary numbers b4 time ran out...too bad I skipped part of the test.

D'OH
I read half the post, saw that no one got it, solved it... and what do I find at the end of this thread?!?!

--yes, complex numbers have conjugates that make the product real. The conjugate of 2+i, for example, would be 2-i

sigh*

I've got it. yija said that they're "imaginary numbers", so the numbers are this:

imaginarynumber1 + imaginarynumber2 = 10
imaginarynumber1 * imaginarynumber2 = 130

HA! to all of you who think they're Albert Einstein's twin brother. I'm his clone. Muahahaha...

/me keeps my evil laugh going for several hours, and then he decides that it's getting old. I go get a pizza. Then I moo at you.
