My monitor died
My monitor is a 17" CRT that isn't even a year old. I was just sitting in front of my computer then all of a sudden my monitor dies. If I try to turn it on, it just makes a clicking noise over and over again at a constant rate. The power light won't even turn on. What the hell happened to my monitor?
BTW, I'm posting this on my old 1994 IBM Thinkpad. It takes ages to load any modern pages so, please, only constructive comments.
Dammit, now I wish I had a spare monitor. The only monitor that goes mostly unused around here is the monitor on my dad's server.

I think maybe you had a powersurge that fried the monitor's power supply. It happenned to me once, except with a TV instead of a monitor. If it is still under warranty you should get a new one.
If not, call the manufacturer, sometimes its cheaper to replace a part rather than the whole thing, and sometimes the company has a service store in the area of your town, kinda like the "Gateway Store" and "mac Store".
Also, if it was a power surge I'd get or replace your surge protector. My computer nearly fried it's motherboard when a power surge blew through and I didnt know my Surge Protector's batteries and everything were shot, it killed the protector and did some serious damage to the motherboard. Protector saved the motherboard and probably the computer though by taking some of the hit.

It appears my monitor is still covered under warrenty. I'll check about getting it replaced.
If it isn't.. start kicking it, it might help.
No, don't kick it; you risk damaging it bigtime. Just give it a couple whacks upside the head... :P
Fun and constructive uses for old computers and monitors...
Go to store, buy spray cans of various things that say "Caution, Flammable".. and "Do not use near fire"...
If its a computer. Stuff the case full of them, leave a trail of something that buns and some kindling... light the trail, run to a save distance and watch with binoculars :-D
Monitor? Make a platform out of the cans and set the monitor on top. Leave trail and kindling... light, same as above. For added fun put GI-Joe on top and think "Rocket Man"...
Alternate method of having fun...
Gather a pile of large logs, rope, and a lot of rocks...
Build Trebuchet...
Put computer in launch basket...
Lay siege to local computer store :D
For added fun, replace "computer", with "neighbors cat", and lay seige to pet store...

Well, actually http://www.macfreak.nl occasionaly organized: 'oud hollands pc werpen' (old dutch PC throwing.) You get a PC and try to throw it as far as you can. If you can't throw a pc; try a mouse, a keyboard, speakers or whatever... insane.
If the monitor is truly less than a year old, there is a real good chance that it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty. The base warranty for most of these is 1 year. Definitly check with the MFGR and see what they can do for you.
