Mini, low capacity iPod: Good idea
Making it only $50 less than the normal iPod: Bad idea

Dammit, Apple. I was going to buy one if it were only $100 or so... $250 for a 4 gig iPod?!? Grrr...

Better than rio's shit.

Oh, and the colors are ugly.

Actually, if you think about it it is perfect for what it is meant to do, it is meant to be smaller than the iPod! (duh)
.12 inches thiner.
.4 inches less wide.
.7 inches shorter.
2 ounces lighter.

iPod mini size percentage:
88% Height
83% Width
81% Thickness
64% Weight

($230 with educational discount.)

Ummm... The Nitrus is the same price and capacity as the mini iPod (they just released a 4 gig version), and cnet gave it a great review... Also, I'd rather spend the extra $50 and get 15 gigs space or, even better, spend $250 and get a Karma...

I see no review by cnet.
I also don't see a $250 Karma.
I also don't see a 4GB Nitrus.

Unless I can't find the cnet article and rio is slow at updating their site.

Low price is $267, new ones can be had for much less on eBay.

Sorry, I meant Muvo, not Nitrus...

Note the "4GB capacity available" part...

P.S. There's a very useful tool for finding things... It's called a "search"... :P

Searching for a 4gb nitrus didn't turn up anything.

:P

I was talking about your inability to find the Karma review... :P Oh yeah, and did I mention it has FLAC and Vorbis support, not to mention an ethernet port, and comes with a cradle that has USB, ethernet, and composite (L/R channels) out? :D
Jan 06, 2004 Suicidal Lemming link
But you said the cnet review was on the nitrus!

Also, the ports don't matter, you'll still have downtime when you first get it while charging!
Jan 06, 2004 Pyro link
Doh... Shush, you... :P And... Ummm... What downtime?
/me doesn't get it...

A 4G Muvo? WTF? I've got a 128M Muvo, and I know they make up to 512M. Muvo is solid state, and 4G of single-stick solid state NVRAM would cost you something around $2000.

[EDIT]
I RTFA. It's not -actually- a muvo, it's just the same name as the other 12 Muvo's they make, but totally different. I hate HD based players ebcause they're slow and delicate. And I can't put my homedir on one.

This just in! Rechargeable batteries need to be *gasp* CHARGED!
Jan 06, 2004 Pyro link
It can *gasp* charge in the cradle while it plays! :P

"And I can't put my homedir on one."
Sure you can! It would just defeat the purpose! :D

RCA Electronics is selling a 20gb MP3 player for $200 at Costco Wholesale in several states and you might find one at www.costco.com

What I mean is that on the FAT16 system of a normal Muvo, I can have the 8.3 limited mp3 files, then I can have a directory with <8 chars in the name. In that directory I put files that don't conform to 8.3, and the device can't see them. mp3 player and portable homedir, all in one.

Apple made a mistake with the pricing. My Dell DJ cost the same amount and I got 15gb with it. And don't try to push the Apple quality garbage on me. The new mini ipod is a ripoff. My advice is to either buy a Dell DJ or spend the extra $50 and get a 15gb iPod.

Fromt what I've read on MacRumors, the audience at the keynote got pretty quiet when Steve Jobs announced the price.

You could see for yourself ya lazy bum.

Rogue, why not just stick it on a hard drive one and not go into that folder when you go to listen to music? :P
