Let's bring them back for old times sake.
Yarr!
And really bad eggs.
What exactly was the purpose of the Turrets or the turreteers?

General nuisance. But it was fun.
/me was thinking of the defence turrets
Ahh, in that case, I will just remind an Turreteers that the SDF is Weapons-Free on any craft that attacks a trader. Turret craft will be cannon-fodder if found attacking Serco Traders...
The turrets were always cannon-fodder, so how does the sdf change things?
How do you mean, change things?
If you mean for traders, we provide cheap Armed Escort Services. 5k gets you an SDF Escort Corps Fighter or you can hire the whole Corps for 25k (4 Vulture Fighters and 1 Missile Rag)we also blast people who attack traders whether they are actively blasting a trader or not. We do what we can to keep the galaxy Trader Friendly as much as possible.

Hahahahahahahahaha. You don't know how many times I've seen SDF pilots attacking Itani traders, do you? There's a reason we shoot first, you know.
I'd like to remind the SDF that there were a couple of Serco turrets in that mix. And, as Suicidal Lemming has already pointed out, turrets were ALWAYS cannon fodder.
n00b join my legions! Turrets shall return, and you can be a mascot :D
SDF is KOS any Itani because that Itani maybe a monetary supporter of the Itani Nation Military and we cannot allow them safe passage. If an Itani announces his Passiveness before the initial engagement then I personnally let him go and encourage other SDFs to do the same but if they dont declare their passiveness before hostilities begin I must destroy them under suspicion of being a hositle militant.
Xorbital, you sound like Yuri from C&C Red Alert 2
Also, Serconian Turrets found attacking will be puniched with financial sanctions and other drawbacks, or the SDF may contact it's counter-part force in the NT Nation to dispense of the offender on-sight.

That is why all (smart) turrets are Itani. And who is this Yuri?? ...maybe It'd be best I don't find out.
Yuri is a crazy Soviet Phycic who's hell bent on ruling the world by forcing all humans to obey his will and his ideas. Go to:

C&C Red Alert 2, yuri's revenge was great.

Um... If turrets are cannon fodder (which they most assuredly are), then destroying a turret will accomplish nothing. *MOST* of the turret legions used stock busses. Destroy a turret, turret gets new bus, turret gets destroyed, lather, rinse, repeat (ad-nausium).
Financial sanctions? Punishment? Turrets are usually done on the cheap. No financial "sanctions" would work. Turrets home in a given sector and harrass the populus there. What punishment could you inflict? A turret's sole purpose is to be cannon fodder so destroying them will only accomplish their goals.
I now direct your attention to this thread outlining the original idea behind the turrets
