Vendetta dosn't have many real pirates, but it does have fair number griefers.

A pirate would fire a couple of shots, demand you drop your cargo or your death, give you a couple of seconds to make up your mind whether to drop your cargo or make a run for it, take a cut, and then leave, not bothering you again for a period of time. You would then pick up your remaining cargo and continue on your way.

A griefer will (to qoute Suicidal Lemming) "Kill trader -> kill same trader -> kill same trader -> trader stops trading! (out of money) -> GRIEFER runs out of source of income".
