You can never be too safe

November 8th, 2016 is a day I will never forget. Not because of the election here in the US but due to assuming everyone at work had been trained in lockout/tag out procedures. Turns out one of our new hands, a young guy who had never been exposed to the concept didn't understand that a lock on a machines power supply meant DO NOT TOUCH. He was anxious to get some work done and pulled the lock then turned on the machine while I was behind it with my arm buried in its guts. In less than 5 seconds my arm was removed just below the elbow.
So for those of you who work around machines, I urge you to make sure that you take extra precautions if you are going to be doing any maintenance that will require you having you hands or arms inside them. It only takes a few seconds for disaster to strike.

Get better.

Then cut off both his arms.

I would but he no longer has a job. Honestly, I can't hate him but right now I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Maybe I'll buy joylessjokers favorite accessory, a trackball, and learn to boom rats with it :-D

OMG! SO sorry that happened to you. I worked in an industrial plant (coal pulverizers modified to shred aluminum scrap) and had to watch all the ghastly safety films. How could this guy not have known???

Seems maintenance lockouts should be locked differently and keyed separately.

We had one person in charge of locks and keys. When maintenance was to be performed we let him know and watched while he locks or tags and we sign off that it was indeed locked out. For some reason, instead of verifing I was finished with the maintenance, Ron just handed the kid the key and told him to bring it back before the end of the shift. Needless to say I am looking at a very nice settlement and Ron was also fired for negligence and might be facing charges should my lawyer get his way.

The companies lawyer has already indicated a,willingness to settle out of court, incling covering all medical costs now and in the future for anything related to my arm.

Ty Hellcat. It's getting better day by day but I really miss flying in the verse. Tried a few nights ago bUT couldn't do crap for maneuvering.

What's left of that part of my arm could have been nicely fried up and stuck on a bun. Not that the dr put it in exactly those terms when I asked about reattaching it LOL.

Wouldn't it be cooler to try out one of those futuristic bionic prosthetic arms? With a terminator arm, you'll impress the fuck out of all the hot chicks.

Or, you could get an arm transplant. If you ask me, a robotic arm is cooler and less creepy than a flesh arm that used to belong to somebody else.

Industrial injury/OSHA compliance/worker's comp are not my areas of practice, but loss of a fucking ARM is hardly compensable by covering all medical costs associated therewith. I mean, you had a perfectly functional arm that didn't require any medical costs to begin with. Then again, worker's comp is a pretty brutal limitation re: tort claims, so short of a claim the company failed to comply with OSHA requirements you might be well-severed...er, served...by going with a quiet settlement.

Hope you've got a good lawyer - you'll be writing them a large check either way, may as well get your money's worth.

Just...what the actual FUCK?! You must be on some epic meds...I'd be considering introducing Ron's arm to a meat grinder were I in your shoes.

Hey lecter, just out of curiosity, what's your area of practice? Perhaps criminal defense?
Nov 22, 2016 Dr. Lecter link
White collar criminal, but more preindicment investigation and...clean-up. Plus lots of complex commercial litigation, with some weird financial world class actions thrown in.
