Opinions, Rumors, and being Wrong
Recently it has been brought to my attention that there are many people that assume rumors are fact and base decisions on these rumors.
For example: It's been a quest of mine to figure out who Kastin Thunderclaw really is. To do this, I have asked him and other main characters questions and base my judgments on their reactions.
Some facts about Kastin: As of pre-last night's update, Kastin Thunderclaw was arguably the best pilot ever to use the tri-valk combo. If he's ever on, look at his score. It's wild, I think he was pushing a 10:1 PK ratio the last time I checked. As his time online increased, it quickly became apparent that he was challenging Icarus for the #1 PKer spot.
Habits - His piloting is characterized by long boosts with slight repositions before making a boost attack on a player. If he's damaged, he'll dock. If he's overwhelmed, he'll switch to rag + 2 nukes and station nuke exploit (now m00t). He'll talk trash and "ROFL" if you kill him after a long time in trying along with some comment demeaning the importance of the kill.
So.. naturally, I wanted to find out who the pilot was. He's better than any other aliases online that I've fought. This includes Blitz, *, AsteroidX, Blaster, Maso, Arolte (who wasn't really online during Kastin's hey-day), Janelle/Homestarrunner, Asp, h0ly, Uncledave, Rene, furball, LeathaL, SL, Rogue, Saemus, Hunter, Roger, yooyooma, Hoax, and FM. He's definitely in the same circle as SF (although nowadays and 3.3.x he'll just nuke), Phoenix, Icarus, and possibly marcuse.
Really, everyone's suspect, but few can match his skill. My estimate is that he can kill me 2/3 of the time. The only other people that can consistently kill me like that are SF, Phoenix, and possibly Icarus (LeathaL was in until I beat him in a 4:1 valk duel). Now unless some vet has changed main chars or a newbie came along that reaaaaally knows how to fight, my suspicion naturally fell on those three. Icarus was out when he came back briefly and confided in me the name of his new character (one that I am not allowed to share), and Phoenix was out when I witnessed a duel between him and Kastin, and it was apparent that there was no faking between the two (Phoenix is slightly better). So my suspicion fell to SF. I voiced my opinion, and within minutes SF came on (how does he do that? Sit on IRC all day??) and said something like "so you think I'm Kastin huh?"
Now, when I asked him, SF swore at me and belittled me. Quite a reaction from someone who says he's innocent.
Evidence against SF being Kastin:
They were both on at the same time.
They dueled each other.
Their IPs are allegedly different.
Evidence for SF being Kastin:
Many peopled have violated the terms of agreement and downloaded Vendetta onto multiple machines.
The duel between them was phony, in my opinion. Kastin was in his valk and SF undocked in a Centurion and died every time. In my opinion, SF (the char was "Vendetta") was a different pilot than normal. I know that *I* could have beaten his cent in a rocket bus.
SF by his own admittance has 5 unique IPs.
Kastin has multiple machines. At one point there was a "Garret Thunderclaw, "Cyrius Thunderclaw," "Commander Thunderclaw," and "Kastin Thunderclaw" on all at the same time. When I checked the stats they were zeros all the way across (i.e. a char created that never leaves the home sector but exists just to talk). They all said similar things one after the other (i.e. one person jumping from machine to machine).

What does all this mean? I certainly cannot deductively prove that SF is Kastin, I only can present inconclusive evidence to support my theory. It also means SF is quite ticked off at me. In my reasoning, if he was not Kastin, a simple "no" would have been sufficient. Indeed, many vets responded that way and are no longer under suspicion. But when the question evokes a violent reaction from someone and they proceed to violently deny something before staging an obviously fake duel, suspicions are raised.
As it stands now, I personally doubt SF is Kastin, their characters are too different, and having known SF for a couple years on several games, I don't think he's that good of a roleplayer to pull something like this off. However, I could be wrong. When I think that SF is Kastin, it's merely my best guess.
What it means for you, the community: Don't steal my brainwork--go out and do your own. The last thing I want to hear is every lamer on Vendetta screaming "SF is Kastin [just because DS4 thinks so]." If you really want to know who Kastin is, go do your own research. This is one of the unique little chores in Vendetta when people are able to have multiple characters. Have fun with it.
But don't take out your wrath stored for one person on another or even another char. Even if SF was Kastin it wouldn't influence my treatment of SF one bit. Same with Blitz and "Defence Ship 7." Blitz is Blitz and D[c]S7 is D[c]S7. So I don't want people to PM-spam SF with "omg wtf **** * ****** you're kastin ****** ******** you." First of all, you have no idea if SF is Kastin or not, but have stolen the investigative research I've done. Second of all, SF does not deserve the ire that Kastin has earned, even if they are the same people. Characters are unique and should stay that way.

Garret Thunderclaw, Commander Thunderclaw, and everyone but Kastin are White Magic, and he kicks my ass regularly.
I'm also very curious why SF get's so upset if he's not really Kastin, and why he refuses to come on at the same time Kastin is on, and is "afk" or something....

I'm not gonna talk about anything else more than whats posted here because it will just start a flame war...but when I was talking about 5 ips...I was talking to someone else and I was talking about my new webserver...
SFTech's new webserver has 5 ips it runs on.
I my self have 2 connections 1 directly to my pc and the other split to the rest of my family which I barely use except to download huge files because it has a nice 2mb line.

That's true, which leads me to believe that Kastin is playing on more than one computer at the same time. Even the at the time when you "dueled" him, immediately after, he docked and didn't come out for 20 minutes. He was also unresponsive.
I really can't say more on this subject, so I'll take something else up: The terms of agreement. Technically, you violated them, and unless you have something signed by the devs, should anything ever happen, they could dissolve their license with you. So, you've gotten a "word of mouth" reprieve, yet are technically violating the ToG. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just pointing out a fact. Many other people also have Vendetta on two machines. I am one of them. When I got my G5, I didn't erase Vendetta on the old one. Raybondo asked me when I got it to test something on both machines, which would imply breaking the terms of agreement. -I'm not so sure. I do a lot better against Kastin than I ever have against Leathal. And Icarus is just waay better. I'd say Phoenix is slightly better. Kastin is good, but he isn't that good. But then again, Kastin is the only one I have fought regularly since 3.2. So maybe I'm just getting better.

Well, for me, it's this way:
Phoenix can kill me nearly every time (when I fought him in the past).
Icarus can't kill me, but I can't kill him (i.e. we both run out of flares with 100%).
I killed LeathaL four straight times before getting careless the fifth.
So, that's the way I am, but each pilot has their own strengths and weaknesses.

WHAT? I never knew this! I have vendetta on my laptop and my desktop, in all three OS's. Now I read the license agreement. d'oh! Section 2.1. Devs, why is this here? Since you can only be on the game on one comp at a time (this is guaranteed unless you REALLY break the rules and make 2 accts without permission), why does it matter? I like to be able to play on the road on my laptop and at home on my desktop. Why should this be in violation?

Because I went through and named the vet pilots that I knew that played. I have yet to see Pyro in-game (why don't people tell their chars??).
Suggestion: Allow people to post under their in-game names in the RP forum.
