It's soooo much faster with a linux compiled specifically for 64-bit. 100% 64-bit baby!

Actually, I still have my Athlon Tbird 950Mhz. :P No Athlon-64 yet.

I don't care if Microsoft Word or whatever enables my text to appear 0.00000000000004 seconds faster. Is that really something to brag about? Each platform has their own set of optimized software that'll perform better on that particular platform. Photoshop is such an example. AMD gets its ass kicked when it's up against the G5 in Photoshop tests. Conclusion? Poop.

/me notes that that's the main benchmark all the Mac users quote

Ummm... How about for gigantic databases and the like? Oh yeah, and the Athlon 64 slaughtered the G5 in the Photoshop benchmarks too. :P

Problem #1: Note the url--www.PCworld.com. This is supposed to be unbiased? Hah... ahaa... hahaha...

Problem #2: Previous benchmarks from Mac websites seem to indicate opposite results. Reason? Again, biased websites.

Problem #3: There's no mention of whether the G5 plugin was used for the Photoshop benchmarks. Without it, the G5s can't run Photoshop at its greatest potential. Crippled intentionally or not? You decide.

Problem #4: Apple's latest operating system, Panther, is literally days away from being released. With each new operating system upgrade comes a better set of drivers and better performance overall. The hardware is only as good as the software. Sadly, I can tell you right now that Jaguar is probably the slowest version of OS X I've run to date, despite all this commotion about Quartz Extreme or whatever.

If you can find an unbiased website that removes preinstalled software, reformats the hard drive before installing test software, actually has the latest drivers and software installed, and does proper research to ensure that both platforms have the latest everything... please let me know. I have yet to see it.

PCworld would be the last source I'd trust with benchmarks. So would MacCentral. Everybody adds their own little twist. If you worship either one of these websites and make purchasing decisions based on their benchmarks, consider yourself a consumer sheep.

Lastly, what exactly do these benchmarks serve as? As a way of sparking platform wars? How about getting your ass in a chair and trying both computers out with your favorite applications and THEN deciding which one is best for you? Chances are you probably wouldn't notice any speed difference whatsoever. And chances are the results will vary every single frickin' time you double-click that application. Conclusion? Poop. Again.

Hey man! Don't knock PCMag's benchmarks! They're obviously un-biased! Even an apple site said so!
