New OpenParsec video update
Interesting. But... any plans for a 6DoF movement system? (spoiled by VO)
Parsec ships can strafe and all that, they just don't have equal thrust in all directions.
We do plan to improve on the existing movement system, but it likely won't be identical to Vendetta's.
VO ships shouldnt have equal thrust in all directions, seems unrealistic
We have magic ships that are capable of generating artificial wormholes and flying without the use of fuel -at all- that are cheap enough to make that they can be handed out for free, and you want to nitpick something like equal thrust as being unrealistic?
lol
Remember, we do have turbo, which means we don't have equal thrust overall. Turbo is for travel. Non-turbo is for maneuvering around stations and asteroids. And when you are maneuvering, it makes very good sense to have equal thrust, because that makes things safer and easier.
If I were designing a ship in reality, I'd pretty much do it the VO way - matching maneuver thrusters in all directions, plus bigger forward thrusters. The main difference would be that the relative difference in power between the maneuver drives and the travel drives would be a lot larger, particularly in civilian ships. But that's just due to the differences in scale and physics between games and reality.

Because it directly affects gameplay a lot more than say, the lolscience behind how jump drives work.

It's not necessarily on topic, but since we're discussing it - All directions equal thrust causes a ton of balance problems for Vendetta's combat model, it would be much better for ship diversity and make for a much more interesting combat model if we didn't have all directions equal thrust, or if it was reserved for a particular type of generic ship.
Sorry TRS, but "airplanes in space" gameplay is stupid.
it isn't that stupid, or I wouldn't be working on this hobby, but it has it's place in its own universe and not this one
I didn't say airplanes in space, but thrusters on the front of the ship couldn't achieve the Sam thrust as the back thrusters with the help of engines, doesn't mean you can't go backwards, just not as fast
Can't turbo backwards.
If you're only talking about having the non-forward thrusters be like 75-90% of the forward thrust, I could live with that (heck, I'd thrive with that - there would be "Nerf Rin" threads within a month of the change). I was assuming you meant having lateral thrusters only capable of like 20% of forward thrust. I hate games like that.
My favorite thing about VO is that I can face my enemy and dodge the incoming fire. That's only possible thanks to the high lateral thrust and pitifully slow projectile speeds that VO uses. And I don't give a pig-humping frog if people think it's unrealistic, because it's fun.

I meant the former, not the latter. I feel like you were assuming I was part of a subset of 'Airplane space game players' that I am just not. VO is the first space game i've really played in quite a while.
There is plenty of room for flight mechanics in between "space planes" and what Vendetta does.
Parsec is currently much more on the side of "space planes", but I have some changes in mind (which a couple other games have used to great effect) that will hopefully make flight feel better while still being very different from Vendetta.

I never really liked "space planes". Fights usually just turn into who can turn left the fastest. 6DoF is where it's at, which is why VO has the best 1v1 space combat of any space game I've ever played (in combination with the way projectiles are handled).
Still, I will have to try this out. Always up for Space Quake.
