Gentlemen's Blood: A History of Dueling, Barbara Holland (2004).
Ye be welcome.
"In most civilized countries now, a respectable man cannot claim a right to fight another man physically, possibly to the death, in defense of his honor. But the urge lurks. It's been around for a long time.
In my state, among others, any man may drive around legally with a loaded handgun on the passenger's seat, in case some scoundrel insults his car, the modern embodiment of a gentleman's honor, by cutting in front of him. Probably he won't shoot the offending driver, but knowing that he could is wonderfully cheering."
